there are quite a few different types RJES has a table of them for selection but quite expensive, Fellows Speed Shop may sell you one they also have some nice bits to help with your conversion.

Has your van got still got the original gear box and reduction boxes if so these will have to be ditched and IRS suspension & drive shafts from either a beetle or early bay.

You did not say what engine you have but from symptoms I would check spark plugs and leads for a kick off
