hello everyone,my battery wasnt charging checked my alternator and it was pushing out 10v ,so i brought a new one just put it one and its doing the same only 10v , i havent got my alternator light connected(wasnt one on the vdub engine) would this cause this. if not any one got any clues.

Some alternators have to have the charge light hooked up to allow charging, definitely sounds like that's the case!

Fully charge your battery first, around 13V before doing anything else.


Check earth straps:
1/ Gear box to chassis
2/ Battery earth to chassis
3/ Engine to battery earth (I really must do this!)

Do you mean "Brand spanking new"? If so it sounds like you're not getting enough excitation voltage.

Not having a charge light is a BadThing(TM) especially on a dub! (Light comes on and it could have told you your alt belt had snapped and you've lost all cooling)
They're easy enough to wire up - do it. It's two wires and a bulb - POP.
No, not having one wouldn't cause this problem.

Yer I have had the same proble, and It was because the alternator would not charge properly with out thr alternator light being connected.

thnaks peps iv been told that the bottom left terminal on the alternator is the charge light is this right, my batterys dead so i will give that a charge and check my earths, what light on the dash is the alternator is it the "G" red light.

just to let you know you need you alternator light connected for your alternator to work,any one want a new alternator for a ej 22 Grin
