Today I have installed an EJ22 into my t3 bus, quite an achievement already!
There are still lots of jobs to do, one of which is the installation of the fuel pump. I have bought a pump from RJES which has a 12mm inlet and a 8 mm outlet. The problem I see is that my fuel tank only has an 5.5 mm outlet as it was a regular carburettor version. This means I have to go from 5.5mm to 12 mm and then back to 8mm.
Does anybody have any experience on how to get a 5.5 mm connection to go to a 12mm one? Another option would be to install a VW filter which as an inlet of 8mm and a 12mm outlet. But then I still need to go from 5.5 to 8 mm.
Are there any reducing nipples on the market for either solution? I just hope that the 5.5 will not be too small to allow enough petrol to the pump.

| re the tank outlet...does this unscrew on the t3? on the bay its possible to remove the outlet and enlarge the central tube. if it is the case you may be abel to substitute with either a homemade one or one from an injected model. personally I would ensure that the tank outlet is not smaller than the supply to the engine....what happens in between (ie if it gets bigger) is not to important. |

I'm looking into getting a moulded hose made going from 8mm to 12mm. What year is the bus? Not sure about earlier models, but later (2WD) ones generally have an 8mm outlet - the one on the right. The one on the left in the fuel return on an injected engine, and the float bowl vent on a carburetted one. _________________ Regards,

Tne inlets on the tank do not unscrew. Mine's an 1983 which has the old tank configuration. I believe this was carried on until 1985 when the tanks changed. I can see the point about the having to have an 8 mm connection but that would mean taking the tank out (again, which is a pig of a job! ) and having it welded. I am just going to try my luck and see if 5,5 will do.

Hey, a fellow dutchman!
You could also try the system I use for my fuel injected Alfa engine in my bug.
I use the original 6 mm tank outlet, this goes to a standard filter which has 6 mm on one side and 8 mm on the other (the outlet on these filters can be cut with scissors to 8 mm). From the filter the 8 mm line goes to a "collector" which has two 8 mm connections on one side, and one 15 mm on the other.
On 8 mm is the inlet from the before mentioned filter, the other is the return line from the injection system.
The big 15 mm outlet goes to the Fuelpump.
The theory here is that the Alfa engine had a better mpg (verbruik) then the original beetle engine, so a 6 mm feed line should be enough. By mixing the return line with the feed-line the pump should always have enough fuel.
Some worry about the fuel heating up. I didn't experience that yet.
I do, however, sometimes hear the fuel pump buzz. But Alfa Romeo owners said that was normal for a Alfa Romeo 33 pump (which is made by Bosch, btw).
But, as we say here in Holland: Garantie tot aan de stoep! (translation aprox: warranty lasts until you reach the sidewalk)
