I updated the above post about the shaft material spec after finding a better example - input shafts suitable for up to 2500 bhp, as used in redvictor1 - the quickest street car in the world. I don't know whether the exact grade and hear treatment spec are identical, but it's the same type of steel in the same application. See http://78.129.134.100/~redvicto/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=34 , between 1/3 and 1/2 way down.

Looking pretty impressive, any idea on a price or is it P.O.A?
Cheers Ian.

Hi Grzegor Hello

Rich's splined shafts are direct replacements for the 091 gearbox.

With an RJES belhousing (Van gearbox) you would normally use the VW spline, VW friction plate & the Subaru flywheel and Subaru pressure plate.
Using RJESs spline allows you to use the Subaru friction plate.

I hope that helps you.

I believe they are the same length as the 091 VW shafts.

The Subaru splined input shafts put the splines in exactly the same location relative to the engine / bell housing mounting face as a Subaru gearbox. The overall length is similar, but not exactly the same for two reasons:

1. There are two different lengths of VW shafts, depending on the specification of the VW from which the gearbox came (both lengths work with the bell housings).
2. The Subaru splined shafts use a pilot bearing with a different bore size to a Subaru. Apart from this difference in diameter, the rest of the 'engine' end of the shaft replicates the dimensions of Subaru components, not the VW.

My shafts with the Subaru spline are 294mm long, and they fit both my push to release clutch (as used on all naturally aspirated Subaru's) and pull to release clutch (as used on all Turbo Subaru's) bell housing kits.

As far as I know, yes. I have not seen any clutches from engines as new as MY07. I have heard that the very recent STi's have a clutch bigger than 240mm, but do not know whether this is correct. If it is correct, they they may not fit in my bell housings. I won't know until I get one to measure. Up to about MY05 all the naturally aspirated models used clutches no bigger than 230mm, ad they all fit as far as I know.
