1971 Bay Window with Ford 1.8 Turbo Diesel

I purchased my baby back in 2004 off Ebay for £700 after having a couple of years of hell with a 1974 lawn mower 1800 bay. The guy I bought it off had started to convert the bus but never really finished as he found the amount of welding required to underside of the bus was well beyond him.

I have lots of pics in the link below of my Resto which is still going on. The bus is running at the moment but gearbox is shot and have just managed to get my hands on a 2ltr box Happy

Anyway a few pics -

Fabbed Exhaust which wraps up round the top of the g'box

Mounting for rad with a pair of M'bke fans

Rad in situ

Heater matrix under RnR (minus the RnR)

with RnR

Now all geared up for a final push to finish off resto, upgrade brakes and install a TD motor Grin

Nice one JP... It'll look great with a nice new front end.
If you get the chance could you post a pic of your removable rear end for engine instal. Just to give me some ideas on mountings/fixings as I'm going to be doing this to my Bay in the next few weeks or so . . .. Or send it via e-mail to darren@covin.co.uk Cheers.

good work - mademy evening seem worthwhile - did your temp guage work on the way home btw?

Not really sure on temp gauge as it read really low on the orig one and is reading just over 40 on the bus one !! so not sure... may try taking the sender of the other engine and putting it on the caymen.

Looks sweet, think I'm going to need a set of these when my engines in! So it'd be interesting to know how its done.

Yellow calipers look great and I love those wheels - I assume that they're required to match the hubs (i.e. they're not 112x5 PCD) also looks like you'd struggle to squeeze 15s over them.

Did you make inserts for the hubs to take T2 bearings or sleave the spindles to accept 944 brearings ?
I've got full set of 944 brakes including M/S and ally arms but not sure if I'll fit them to the Covin or the Bay . . .

Think I need to finish all the welding first once I get the house DIY out the way. It's a bugger as I'm itching to get cracking on the Bay again......lol

Hope its not to scary driving mine with the original brakes! This will definately have to be the first upgrade once its on the road.

Even thought its a long way off I doubt I'll afford porsche hubs calipers and wheels before then - theres still body panels, interior, and engine stuff to buy.

thers a strong possibility that I will make a load of kits to do this conversion in the near future to save you all the work :-)..I need to finish my bus first but watch this space......
