Hi, making some head way with my Subaru conversion to my split bus. Moving turbo, throttle body,cutting wiring up, shortening sump / dip stick and oil filler.
Ran out of jobs to do, so cleaned up the inlet manifold and cut off whats not needed.
Got a slight problem with my wiring so far, some wires out of the ECU I cannot identify. All the digrams I can lay my hands on either don't list these wires or say no connection. The loom and ECU are from early Impreza turbo.
The pin outs I cannot find are;plug B95 pin 9,plug B43 pin 20,12 and 5.
Any ideas ?

cool , looks like tidy work, any bigger pics of the turbo move?, have an Imprezza turbo engine in the garage incase my lawn mower turbo goes bang, looking for the easiest way of getting it in an early bay without too much metalwork modification

The splitty turbo install looks very neat. Moving the bits that are in the way rather than hacking the bodywork is the proper way to do it as far as I'm concerned. Someone's doing a bay the same way at the moment. The cleaned up manifold looks very nice. That must have taken a while!
Regarding the wire identification, it's not a Japanese spec Subaru is it? If so, unfortunately you'll probably struggle, as they were only ever published in Japanese. I have an awful lot of Subaru wiring info, yet I've hardle found any for the JDM models. I recently spent a day and a half on the internet looking for a V1 STi diagram for a customer who had sent me his harness to modify without knowing it was Japanese spec. All I found was plenty of other people after the same info.
Kev in Stoke on Trent - your turbo air cooled conversion looks similar to the Beetle conversion I did about 13 years ago, except you can afford the injection system I wanted, but couldn't afford at the time! I used Dellorto's converted to Lotus turbo spec. Good luck - my lawn mower turbo project was a money pit - more a matter of when and how often it blew up than if! However, not wanting to continue pouring money into that project was what made me develop my range of products for Subaru conversions. I'm only in Cheadle if you want to discuss how to convert your early bay. They're a lot easier than late bays. _________________ Regards,

Yeah the manifold is taking a while, still not finished. Thanks for the info about looms, yes it is a Japanese spec loom. So I'll have to either see what happens with what I've got or get a UK spec loom and ecu.

The JDM engine I mentioned had an unidentified extra sensor in it's boost control system too.
Unfortunately a European ECU and harness on a JDM engine is not a good idea. As the emissions laws were a lot less strict in Japan , the engine will almost certainly have different cam profiles and / or compression ratio, and probably different flow rate injectors too, as JDM engine are usually more powerful.
Your best bet is to try to identify what the remaining wires were connected to in the original harness, and follow them. This should allow you to connect it exactly as it was in the Subaru. This is far easier if you know it's a JDM harness up frot though. I didn't with the customer's harness I mentioned, and neither did he. The VIN number proved it though.
JDM engines are best avoided in my opinion. _________________ Regards,
