My conversion is running great since i hadto exchnge the old broken EJ22 that was standing in it (seeanother therad).
However i have some issues still concidering the ideling.
- When the engine is "semi Warm" (drove it for about 4-5kilometers) the ideling is very uneven. it runs up and down from 200rpm-1100rmp and somtimes even stops.
- Also when i driveuphill t low revs and "floor" the throttle the engine surges nd wil run badly at idle afterwards. Almost like it runns on 2-3 sylinders
-when driving downhill wthout using the throttle for some time, like down of a mountain pass the same symptoms as mentioned over can sometimes be present.
The symptoms comes and goes and its annoying when the car stops in an intersection or it runs like and old air coled aircooled.
Is this a known problem? Is there any way for someone here to tell me what this might be? _________________ Subsyncro =) |

My guess.
Give it a real fuel system clean and check the idle valve.
The symptoms are the same when the injectors are dirty or when the idle valve has got stuck (or move badly). |

Thanks mate.
By fuel cleaning you mean adding some injection cleaning fluid in the tank?
Exactly where is the idle valve placed? _________________ Subsyncro =) |

On the side of the intake. It's the one with the gray connector in this image.

You'll see two screws on the top plate.
First mark the IAC body and the plate with a scratch mark so you can put them back in the same place.
Pull out the IAC and give it a good clean with carb cleaner. Re-assemble
Whip off the hoses and clean them out while you're there
I think mine's caught it from yours, she stalled twice today on a short run (engine didn't even touch 60°C)
Have a good evening fella _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Gave the engine a "shot" of injection cleaner before driving home after my christmas holliday. And problem SOLVED!!!!! I bet i got 30 extra Bhp form the engine (well perhaps not) but the difference was huge!!!!!

Is that an additive to the petrol or a can of spray that you blast through the inlet? _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

The proper Subaru procedure for cleaning the (MY90 - MY99) idle speed control valves is to take the inlet pipe off the valve and to spray an aerosol of a Subaru cleaner through the valve with the engine idleing. I'm not sure what the cleaner is, but I doubt it is just carburettor cleaner, as apparently it makes the exhaust very smoky (unless the smoke is just fron the mixture being very rich).
It's no problem cleaning them by taking the valve to pieces - as long as you remember to mark the slots so you can put it back together in exactly the same position. If you lose the position there is no resetting procedure (apart from trial and error), as they are supplied preset. You have to be careful not to let any ferrous particles get in while it is apart, as they will not wash out. The valve is magnetic, and hs some very tight clearances.
Glad the injector cleaner made a big improvement. _________________ Regards,
