Pictures of golf engine beetles?

ok well one of my beetles is going to get my golf 2.0l 8v/16v hybrid engine and although I have seen 1 or 2 pics of beetles with there engine conversion I was wondering if anyone on here had one or any photos of one?

well i had a go at fitting mine yesterday and I can see its going to be no walk in the park, I'm not sure about moving the gearbox forward, however research suggests I'm going to need a stronger gearbox, i want some factory strong like porsche or audi, im trying to minimise the amount of cutting I do to the body of my 1302 (which is what I have decided to fit it in) and heres how it was fitting yesterday...



















now if it had been an 8v GTi engine it would have done 2 things, firstly the head wouldnt stick through the firewall meaning practically no cutting, second the inlet manifold would have been on the exhaust side meaning more stuff in the way there meaning the engine lid probably wouldnt have fitted properly, as it is the cars got stand offs (standard empi type ones you can get) and the top cam wheel touches the lid and the valance is a bit of a problem too as this is a mk3 based gti engine which means it has multi grooved belts and more pulleys, im going to see if there is an alternative to lower the profile of the pullies and im going to make my own valance from a piece of sheet metal as I dont require the complexity of the factory type one.

for the decklid i was going to try and make one of the empi eyebrow decklids like this:

but I need to alter the moons very slightly, this way I think I could get the cam wheel to sit behind a moon and clear the engine lid enough so that standard engine stand offs could be used meaning it just looks like a bit of a cal look beetle with standoffs at the top.

think i need to do some more research into the gearbox side of things and see if theres and alternative that may work in my favour although I dont really want to cut the firewall more than i already have because i want to keep luggage space to a maximum, this is going to probably be my daily when its done so theres going to be a sub and amps behind the rear seat!(along with a small tool kit for an engine that doesnt break down and probably also an ECU)

good progress but sounds like your making life hard to save a very small amount of luggage space - Surely its less work and a better result to use a van box and move the lot forward - and just modify your sounds system to suit?

well at the moment its like that, it means i dont have any problems with gear shifters or any other space, but at this rate i may end up doing something else.

now you say use a van box, do you think they will take upto 300bhp? gear ratios are diar on those things as I know from my diesel.

if i got a 5 speed T25 box and used cable shift might work, guess this is the point where i start needing some advice as i have plenty of time to do the changes at minute

the van box is pretty decent value for money...doppelganger uses one in his beetle - not sure what bhp he is running but i would hazard a guess its certainly up towards if not more than 300bhp...worth a search of his posts as he has been quizzed before about the gearbox.

I just looked at your other thread - some major work gone into that bug - well done!!just made me wonder even more why your worried about a little bit more cutting!!! i thought originally it was because it was all original or something!!

well yeah but im never keen to cut out to much even though originally i was going to replace the rear seats with fibreglass moulded shaps that you could sit in but essentially were the fronts of some serious sub boxes, i'll have to have a look see about bus boxes, i have a spare bay one that jumps out of first to use as a template
