Hi all,
Great Site,
What I'd like to know is:

Can I somehow put a rear of a t25 Diesel into my '66 splitty?
I want to effectively cut out the whole rear of the T25.

My bus is a 1966 Westfalia SO42 LHD,
I have it completely gutted of running gear,
so am not afraid of cutting into it further.

Is the rear of aT25, meaning, Engine, Gearbox and suspension totally non suitable for grafting into a Splitty's rear...?

I see all of the wonderful conversions on this site, adaptders to T1 G'boxes etc.
I'm just wondering if my idea can be done..?
Or is this a Crazy Idea....

Thanks in Advance.
D.C.

wouldnt it be easier to do an irs conversion using 944 parts (or similar), then put a diesel engine on a bus gearbox so it all mates up? or is it a case of you have a dead t25 that you might as well cut up?

I dont know all that much about splits to be honest, but the sort of stuff your talking about seems a bit needlessly complicated to me.

I'm sure one of the guys who knows more about splits will be able to help out though...

A Choice of Dead T25's is what motivates me to go this route....

the original race taxi was a split shell that was stretched to fit over a t25 chassis with loads of lovely porka bits hanging off it. You could narrow the whole chassis and drop ya shell over the top!

welcome Hello
Anything is possible depending how much work you want to do - but stretching the split over the t25 chassi or narrowing the t25 chassis will be a massive amount of work...although very much worth it if your looking for a better performing suspension set up like racetaxi.

i would have thought ther would be more benefit in using the t25 front suspension instead of rear. the t25 set up is far superioir to the beams. a mate of mine is doing this and it has a number of benefits beyond just the uspension - you loose the front beam - meaning more radiator space and airflow, you can narrow it to whatever you wish, t25 suspension takes airbags MUCH easier than spllits/bays.

At the rear I can see you having to have some major structural rebuilding for not a great deal of gain as the mounts are outboard on the T25 unlike the split so you will have to build up some sort of framework to support it. If you move them in you will need shorter driveshafts for sure and you will also need 'towers' for the top of the spring. Once you start thinking about it its probably not worth it at the rear when there are options with the porsche stuff which are much easier. You can still achieve mounting the engine and gearbox without having to mess with the suspension at the back - personally I would put my efforts into the frnt suspension.

good luck though and keep us posted

That's all great and varied advice..
I find this Forum fascinating,
And would like to definately
go the route of a VW diesel in the back of the|Split..
I need to get cracking,
I will certainly post my progress..
