got a 10mm feed on the bottom, and an 8mm return at the top, apart from that its a closed system. I've gotton rid of the charcoal canister from the subby, blocking off the vent pipe.
had a look under the tank last night though and it looks like my main feed hose might be kinking a little.... not enough to completely stop flow, but might be enough to restrict it when it needs more juice. fingers crossed thats the problem. _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

I'd say a closed system is probably your fault.
You're sucking out juice, not replacing it with air & creating a vacuum. Guess which soft and squidgy bit is going to collapse first _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

hmm, hadnt thought of that... any suggestions as to how i sort out a breather on the tank? i've got the return line going to a pipe thats welded to the side of the filler (its an early bug tank, with the metal filler going directly up from the tank), suppose i could add another pipe on the other side of the filler. not sure
arent the scoobys running pressurised fuel systems though? most modern motors do. _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

sounds like a plan

Scoobies (well NA's for sure) have a breather from the tank to the charcoal filter, this is then connected to the PCV. The filter also vents from underneath.
Imagine a bottle of coke, unscrew it and turn upside down, it starts to collapse until it replaces the coke with air. You need to vent it to get flow.
Same for your tank.
Try taking it for a blast, stop when it gives grief, run and undo the filler cap. Mars bar says it sucks if your quick enough! _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

yeah makes sense. think it's worth me sticking the charcoal canister back on in that case (should still have it lying around somewhere)?
at the moment all I've done is blank off that little pipe on top-left of the cam covers, and left the other metal pipe that runs from there to where the fuel pipes are on the other side open at both ends (if that makes sense)... blanking off the PCV pipe wouldnt cause any probs would it!? _________________ '72 Ratty Bug - Subaru EJ20 Turbo motor. |

It's your tank that has to breathe.
The charcoal can and PCV valve are there to control the vapours from the tank into the inlet manifold. I believe the PCV opens when you throttle off, allowing the can to purge.
You don't have to run the can at all if you don't want to, just block off the little pipe on the inlet manifold
It's the little blue one in the middle _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
