Crankshaft seal oil leak

Hi

My Ej22 powered legacy is in the garage to sort an oil leak, it turned out to be the crankshaft seal, the mechanic has also advised me that 2 of the cam pulleys are noisey and buggered, one smooth one on the left and the toothed one. I phoned the local scooby dealer and they quoted me stupid money so im looking at alternatives, Richard of Rjes has been as helpul as ever and pointed me in the direction of this kit on ebay

This is a kit for a later engine with the later tensioner. As i said i only need the 2 pulleys, my belt was changed at the time of the conversion and my water pump is in good nick, has anybody any other info on best places and cheapest places to buy. And also any other info i may find useful.

I have bells ringing in my head, ISTR someone (may have been here or on Aussies) saying he had an engine that kept doing crank shaft seals and it was a loose bolt on the oil pump. This allowed weepage around the back of the crank seal. Check these when you're in there.

Yes the screws on the back of the oil pump were loose, but have now been locktited in so if this was the problem then hopefully sorted.

just had a look around on ebay, and if you only need the pulleys you can get them individually for about £30 each. just do a search for "impreza pulley".

I've got the same tensioner as you, and the workshop manual sais that its fine to reuse it as long as it seems in good shape. its easy enough to remove and refit too.

Hi cheers all for the info, i sourced some from ebay, gonna change the 2 smooth ones and the toothed while its being done, 25 quid each so loads cheaper than Subaru dealer. The mechanic did say that the 2 smooth ones he removed where different depths, he said they were different makes, is this why or are they meant to be like that? Did think about Grade A but didnt want to go 2nd hand.
