I wouldn't bother with the solder. It'll be a bugger to do too.

I've soldered cables together before and they've never broken (very strong), just make sure your good at soldering and use a strong industrial solder (ie for plumbing or radiator repairs etc) , not electrical solder its too soft.

agree with gazman,

i snapped the square hub end off my speedo cable ages ago
silver soldered it back on and its been fine for about 6 years
poor things been over 170km/h a few times and still holding in there

for my throttle cable im just using an aftermarket universal one as well
it came from my rotary powered bug originally but i used it for my super charger and plan to use it for my EJ as well
its just bike brake cable i think

Yeah I ended up using an aftermarket cable for length (poor quality, quite corse) which had a solderless nipple on one end with a long shaft. I tapped a thread onto the shaft, and then screwed it into the plastic block which mounts onto the pump - also using a bit of araldite. looks standard, but I find the throttle is pretty heavy due to the cable and the tight bend bringing the cable from gearbox level to pump level.

I'd probably have a decent cable made up next time.
