Hi,

Ive got some problems with the locks on my '68 bay. i have freed and now can use the sliding door and tailgate locks but the cab ones dont seem to work. ive taken them out but cant see how they are suposed to work.... the key turns 1/2 a turn but then springs back and the door wont lock.

could someone explain how they work. the latches and handles are fine, just locks...

cheers

I bit of an update... Ive had it all out again... and now locks fine. It turned out to be the interior door pull which i think is the wrong one. It was keeping the metal rod connected to the latch tight and from moving.... ive disconnected it and now the lock will move the finger bit.

the interior handles i have are crome with 2 pulls, one lock and one latch. they dont work properly so does anyone know what i should have and how its connected? there is no interior lock pull at the top of the door which i guess i should have?

cheers,

sounds like the pull/push rod is the wrong one not the actual interioir latch or that the little spring in the mechanism is broken/missing.

In early bays you should have a double latch in chrome. Pull up tabs werent fitted until the changeover models (71) as far as i know.

Check that the small spring inside the lock mechanism isnt broken - it looks like a small pen type spring. If this is missing it can prevent the ineer working with the outer and visa versa. sorry can be more explicit its been about 7 years since I sorted mine so is now a vague memory!

any ideas of where this small spring is? the key now works fine, just interiors... it has a small spring in the exterior handle, and a small round spring between th ebarrel and the operating pin, where else should i have a spring then?

also if i have 2 tab opener, there is only 1 connecting bar for it... i this right? its all so tight when bolted in the rod cant move, nor the lock mech... not sure if the rod is long enough, latch bolted in the right place or what...

do you by any chance have new or later model doors?

If so then im pretty sure that the inner handle will be in the wrong place - i had to move mine back about 10mm if i recall when i had late model doors on my early bay.

ill try and find a pic of the spring tomoro - i think heritage have an exploded diagram on their website.

ah the mystery solved. cheers richbaker78. i moved back the latches about an inch and voila they work!!! thanks alot, another reason why forums like this are vital to keeping classics on the road, never would have realised the different door issue on my own...

and another job ticked off my massive list... Happy might even get to a point to begin the engine swap... i am getting there, slowly.
