with the input shaft you dont use the oil scroll and associated parts ,it just has a seal in the bellhousing.did rjes supply all the parts for input shaft and or the original one? _________________ vwdrc class rep

Copied from the e-mail I sent you on 09/09/09:
The seal which is in your bell housing will be to suit a VW shaft. This is too small for use with a Subaru splined shaft, so needs swapping for the larger seal which came with the shaft. I usually fit the right seal for people as I’ve made a tool which makes installing the seals easy. However, obviously I can’t fit the seal for people who upgrade to a Subaru splined shaft.
Remove the original seal by tapping it out with a flat bladed screwdriver from the engine side.
Ideally you need to find a piece of square ended bar which is about 0.5mm smaller diameter than the seal to use to tap the bigger seal in. Cover both the hole in the bell housing and the seal with oil as you carefully tap the new seal in, otherwise it will get damaged. Once the seal is in, put a bit of grease around the lip to lubricate the shaft until oil gets to it.
The steel ring which came with the shaft will have a different sized centre hole to the original. Fit the new one, without the VW oil seal scroll, as shown in the attached photo.
Put insulation tape over the input shaft splines as you pass the bell housing over them, otherwise they will damage the seal. _________________ Regards,
