Twin Turbo scooby engine or single turbo in my Oval????

Hey guys,

sorry to be an arse here,

i was wondering how a twin turbo engine differs from a single turbo engine?

By that i mean engine sizes, turbo sizes, i know i should be cutting my parcel shelf etc but i am just trying to suss out the benefits/differences of fitting a single turbo engine to twin turbo engine.

Also (sorry) why do people seem to stear clear of the jap import cars??
Ive read people mention summin to do with the electrics being different.

I would say that obviously the twin turbo motor is going to be bigger as will the exhaust system. However your going to have to cut up the car either way so you may as well cut it symetrically.

But your also going to have many more vacumb hoses to play with and also more electrics to contend with. Although now that I've played with a single turbo motor I certainly wouldn't be put off by going for a twin turbo motor.

I don't think there are many benefits for the extra hassle of going twin turbo. And I guess the majority of us nutters going for a turbo motor probably feel that on average 250BHP in a car weighting less then a ton is a very respectable power to weight ratio.

Also food for thought why is the STI impreza only a single turbo? I've drivin a legacy gtb (twin turbo) and I wasn't overly impressed with it's performance. But we went in my merc and that's pretty powerfully.

JDM cars,

I've heard that the wiring diagrams are hard to come across. But then I've heard people using the uk diagrams and they have worked fine. There are plenty of JDM conversions running out there.

My engine is a JDM. I'm not scared.

not really any benifit in using a twin turbo, performance isnt any better - the only reason for a twin setup is a small turbo to come on earlier in the revs to make round town driving a little more pleasent, but in a small car i cant see any point really.

single turbo is easier to fit, fix, and tune.

I'm running a '93 JDM WRX motor in my bug, wiring hasnt been a problem. pinouts all seem to be the same as UK. there are a few weird JDM crossover years though so might be worth keeping away from any special edition type jap donor cars.

I can't say much on this as I know sod all about turbos but I vaguely remember the twins being nicknamed the "valley of death" as they can have a big flat spot between the turbos changing over.

I could be mistaken though.
