i quite fancy a go at this conversion, does anyone have any links to something similar?
I want to start collecting bits, need to do a small resto on the bay (sills and arches) then off we go
i have a dta ecu to run the engine on, i have used this ecu before on my aircooled turbo engine, dead easy to use
just looking for the best install info, probably go with an adaptor plate if available to keep the engine upright, have a 2l box with a longer 4th so that end is taken care of
cheers in advance |

the swap would be dead easy use a 15 degree adaptor plate and just make up a craddle to hold the motor im supprised more people havent done it? a 150bhp motor will easily make 200bhp with that dta management mapped correctly _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

hey mate,
I have shoe horned a 1.8T into the back of an Elise - I run EMERALD ECU and no flow meter (no room) most of my install was custom fabricated and works a treat. Obviously my engine runs the other way.
EMERALD is a fully tunable ECU, it do not run knock sensors or the electronics on the cam. The EGR is blanked off as well.
It runs, crank sensor, throttle sensor on the body, Coolant temp, and N75 Boost control - wiring is simple really, I didn't use any of the VW wiring loom,
Lately I have run EGT, lambda is connected but disabled in the ECU.
If you need any advise drop me a line. |

i ran a emerald ecu in my old mk1 golf 20vt it was ace had it mapped by dave walker the power was solid all way through and fuel economy on a run was nearly as good as a diesel _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

I've got 3/4 mates at home who all run 1.8t's with emerald ecu's in there mk2 golfs-they love them and the emerald ecu is brilliant-the only problems they have is with munching gearbox's but I think they have all had em uprated now. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

I would agree that it looks like a good engine option even if it is not as trendy as the Subaru option. does any one make a conversion plate? Do you need to cut the sump if it is angled by 15deg? What is the best cog in the 091 box to get a decent 4th gear. how much will the greabox mod cost? _________________ VW Camper 1971

the engine is mounted using the same bolt pattern as all 4 cylinder vw engines so the usually suspects for a adaptor plates. the sump does not need to be modified as the engine is mounted at 15 degree's in a golf 1.8t.the motor will pull alot longer gears than in the stock box, but a stock box will get you to about 130mph which will be more than enough for a bay _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

look for a early 1.8t motor if you can. the "agu" engine is the strongest bottom end with bigger ports and valves it can apparently make a reliable 350bhp on stock internals _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

had a passat with this engine and would love to see one put one in a van even as a standard 150 it was lovely and smooth and plenty of power. A mate runs a 8v Gti engine in his which is essentially the same block I believe.

You are begining to talk me into the 1.8t vw engine but I need to find a 091 box to do that. They all go for a telepnone number price on Ebay. I have only got a 3 rib 1600 bay box which is not upto the task. This is why I thought a transverse engine set up would be a good solution usig the engine and box but I am against giving away the interior space. I guess with the 15deg tilt the 1.8t would fit under the original floor.
I don't know why but the turbo puts me off and thought about the V6 golf engine. Will it mount to the othe transverse gearboxes and will they take the power? A transverse V6 would be nice for the torque in a bay but I guess it would take too much pay load space up.. I have never run a tape measure over one of these engines. Has anyone seen one fitted in transverse mode? _________________ VW Camper 1971
