hi
i have a 1.9tdi aaz engine fitted to my bay window. all is running really well but a wire has come away from the alternator. it seems that a piece of plastic(where the wire connects) has snapped off the plastic housing off the alternator. ive tried cliping it back in but to no avail. ive attached a picture to explain things better
anyone got any ideas as to how best repair this? is it posible to get a new plastic cover, or re-solder the wire straight to the broken contact? i'd rather not fit a new alternator?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'll admit I can't quite see the broken contact in the picture.
However I can imagine the pickle your in so to mak a repair tithe contact you'd be best to solder a spade sonnector to it or a piece of wire with a spade connector at the other end.
If you only have a little of the original metal showing as the rest is buried in plastic try digging it out a little. Other then that you'll need to get plenty of heat into the showing metal when soldering the connection.
Best of luck fella. _________________ Think......

by the looks of the alternator id say it was a internal fan type (identified by a flat wide drive belt) is the plug on the side of the alternator a 2 pin plug with d+ and w stamped next to it? the plug is part of the rectifier and is difficult and expensive to replace means dismatling and desoldering the alternator to make a repair correctly. a good second hand alternator will cost alot less than the part new and is loads less hastle _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,
