ok ive mucked around trying to put a rad underneath the front but think it will be the rad ough better under the middle chassis rails.
so im thinking to use a bigger rad than the original but the question is...........is it better to scoop the air through the underneath of the flat rad through the top and out or should i scoop it up througfh the top and down throu the rad to exit through the bottom??
does this make sense??been down bar so having touble explaining but think you know waht i mean....??? |

great thanks for that 13 window deluxe!!
i assume thats because going through the top the air is forced in by the scoop and then the hot air is taken away easier by the natural flow of air from the moving bus.
i sold my 13 window deluxe 2 years ago-wish i still had it  |

top tip Mr 13 window. I had been thinking about this one myself.
Do you fit the rad flat or at a slight angle to ease the air flow. I was planning to box it in to force the air through.
do you suck the air through or blow it through with the fans?
What is the rad of choice for a bay? I guess the bigger the better? |

on my split the rads are flat with a ducted sealed box on top, once air gets in to the box it builds pressure above the radiator and air moves through the cores by the pressure difference caused by the low pressure air moving rearwards under the van. The fans NEVER EVER run!!! if you really on fans then your cooling system needs sorting! you will find the most demanding time for a cooling system is the motorway above "XXX mph"

the fans are blow through
the more core area the better but you also need good ducting to make the most of you airflow and good sealing between the box and the core as you dont want to waste any of that cool ducted air

13 window deluxe. I like your thinking I will go for the blow through concept. The only reason I was interested in fans was that I live in Cornwall and on the hot days in the summer all the holiday makers like to park on the A30 for hours on end which can lead to a bit of over heating without some good cooling.
Need the van back to the paint shop to get the tape measure out for a suitable rad |

Pffff. Mine only ever come on under 10mph on the frecking M25. Like today

Mine dont!
I have a radiator setup like 13 windows split but with a minor addition, a hinged scoop!
I run 2x1300cc mk2 golf rads, all in a sealed box with a hinged scoop at the front, the hinged scoop has skateboard wheels along the front edge and allows it to roll over speed humps happily 
with a 1600TD in the back I dont think I have ever seen my fans come on now, maybe once in 2 years! and even then I have a fan on each rad (2 small bike ones on the front and a bike 12" one on the rear rad) and only the front one ever came on, if in doubt I also have an override switch for my fans which allows me to also check operation once in a while!

Your hinged one has nothing on the intake size fella 
Done Kent - Cornwall a fair few times mid summer (trust me on this) with no fans, except for the M25 car park.
Diesels actually run cooler too.
You get bonus points for thread resurrection BTW

mines as wide as the chassis rails, at the opening! it actually narrows by about 2-3" eachside as it approaches the rad box meaning extra air pressure
I am sure you are following me round tonite/this morning!
