|
|
Running a 20 NA, wanting to swop it for a 25 NA. Both air suckers rather than turbo, same year -reason +35bhp pushing the weight of a Westy T3 around, similar fuel efficiency. MY 2000 -2002, very similar ECU inputs/same? Possible swop on ECU/engine ancillaries/antenna/chip needed?
Anybody done this yet? Or even considered it . . .just thoughts . . . |

I think it's a "start from scratch" moment. Sorry. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
Your experiences are worth shed loads to others, including the f'ups - live and learn.
Wouldn't YOU rather learn by someone else's mistakes? So would they.
'78 Bay, 2 litre 091 box, EJ20 NA & the ashtray's on the 'right' side.
I don't lean forward for hills any more

Kindof think so too. . .will look into it a little more just for sheer curiosity value,
worth the research if it is viable as an upgrade for EJ20 sport engine users -thanks for reply. |

If it helps, mine's a 97 sport motor. 125 or so - I wanted a cruiser
Runs a charm - don't diss it Cruise at 80, Devonishire hills
If you want traffic light runs, lobb in a 1600 box _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Happy enough with the cruising power of the 2.0 (2000)
-just caught a glimpse of the 2.5 Naturally brewed ECU
form a SOHC 2001 and the inputs looked the same from
what I could tell -many of the ancillaries are transferable
too . . .dark winter nights the mind begins to wander . . .
Scuby folx don't tend to play much with the non-turbo units,
but you never know. |

It might work, car manufacturers often like to use the same ECU hardware with just different calibration for similar engines.
If the years were very close you have most likelyhood of it working, the only way to find out is to give it a go! |

My thoughts too . . .
Worry is that I fry something . . .learn from other's experiments. Posted
the Q on Scoobynet -see if I get a response. Be really interested if anybody
is running a 2001-03 2.5i SOHC engine of getting a second look at the
ECU inputs, or knows somebody who has one and be prepared to
take a detailed pic? If they were the same I might be willing to save up and
try it out with a donor, everything else seems to be much the same,
there again differences however minor might make the units incompatible - |

| If the ECU plugs in I would be amazed if you could damage anything. If there was any chance of damage, then the connectors would be keyed differently to make it impossible to plugin. |

Some of the MY00 - MY02 EJ20 and EJ25 engines are wired idnetically, and other are not. If the engines both have exactly the same transducers, that's a good sign, but not a guarantee. It's very difficult for me to know for sure. Even if I had all the parts in front of me, it's take a couple of hours of checking to be certain.
It's certainly not as simple as 'if the ECU has the same plugs, it ,must be interchangeable', I'm afraid. There are three distinct variations on the EDM management systems you mention (single lambda, with EGR, two lambda's and an atmospheric pressure sensor), with subtly different variatioins of each for manual and auto. They are obvioiusly pinned differently, as some have transducers the others do not, but they all use the same ECU connectors. Wheter any damage would be done if you plugged the wrong type in is debateable. Assuming the ECU hardware is identical, it's maybe unlikely, but it certainly wouldn't run right, if at all. know I'm. I have no intention of trying to find out!
You'd be best to swap the injectors, MAP sensor and fuel pressure regulator (orpreferably the complete engine, not just the long block) as well as the long block and ECU / immobiliser set for the EJ25 parts to be sure it runs as intended _________________ Regards,
