What type of gearbox do you run?

Hey Tomasz, that would be great

I'll check out the local freight haulers if they can pick up from Rzeszow in the South East of Poland.
And yes, it's a VW 091 type4 CPcode 6rib transaxle used in the Baywindow from '76 'till '79.

I'm looking forward in hearing some good news from you Tomasz

It seems that i'm in luck.
Someone from a Dutch Subaruforum hooked me up with a small company in the south of the Netherlands.
After the christmashollidays i'm going to look him up 'cause he has a type4 091 CP code 6rib gearbox for me.

Hi there you all,

First of all, best wishes for 2011!

Question, how can i distinctivly recognize a 091 6 rib, other than the 6 ribs of course:lol:

The only website i found other then the Samba (with pics) is the one from Richard Atwell.

The Samba page only has one pic of it, transmissions for dummies.

Does somebody have pictures or is willing to take pictures, with every side photographed so i can recognize the unit when i'm taking one out of a Bay?

Where are the gearbox codes stamped, i've read that even the bellhousing has its one code stamped on it?

I've searched the better part of the hollidays on the web and i can't find a clue help

An 091 6 rib is as it says, it's a box with 6 ribs across the top, there are 2 types though nose shift from the bays and side shift from the T25's.

Got that info already on the Samba thread, this version btw is possible to converte in a noseshifter.
I'm looking for other specific info like discriptionwise.
Can you tell me where they stamp the boxcode?

Not sure i completely understand but yes you're right it is possible to convert a side shift 091 gearbox to nose shift however you would i believe need lots of parts from a noseshift 091 to transplant on to the sideshift ie there are not parts available off the shelf so in my opinion sourcing a good noseshift box would be the easier method.

Top one is a t2 1600 box, bottom one is a 091 six-rib nose shift box (CP IIRC)

Well if you could take more for me it's highly apreciated!

Could you take pictures from the nosecone, both sides and the bottom and prolly the spot where to find the boxcode

Next tuesday i'm going to Germany to get one from under a Bay.
I have to pull it out myself so anyone tips on what tools to take with me

I know for sure that the engine is out, so it should be not as hard to get to the box itself.

@Ianbott; sorry to confuse you with info nobody needs, i guess you're right Grin

Any comment on the tools needed to get one out.
Axles are bolted with (inner) hexagons i guess?!

I'm not familiar with the Bay underside, i heard though that there is no forkcradle to hold it (like bug and split) but a sort of subframe, am i correct in that?
I checked out your website but couldn't find any info/pics with the gearboxmounts on it, but a beautifull Bay you made, very nice work.
I hope to get there in a few years Grin

BTW, offtopic, how are you all doing Downunder?
We are bombarded with news that you guys have a serious waterproblem overthere!
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who are suffering due to the water, as you know we Dutch know very well what water is able to do!
