I've found an engine adapter that someone has in a type 3 based 911 kitcar. This has the engine dead upright, not 10 degrees (or whatever) like a golf.
I want to put a golf engine in a '74 crewcab. Am I going to have clearance problems with an upright i4? Or any other problems not being at the factory golf angle?

this:
is how much clearance there is overhead with the engine at 15 degrees. It'll be even tighter at vertical if it'll even fit. Plus all the ancillaries like the inlet manifold, sump, engine mounts are all set up for 15 degrees. If you bolt the engine up at vertical you'll have to modify all of those too. I'd be inclined to keep it simple...
could you redrill the four engine mounting holes or the four gearbox mounting holes 15 degrees around on that adapter? |

Cheers dude. I know that you can't run i4 engines on t25s without changing those parts over. Wasn't sure if 15 degrees made a significant difference. I guess the upright adapter is for kit cars where you want the best weight distribution and you have to fabricate your own oil pickup, etc.
It's a kep plate and i know you can get them in 0, 15 & 50 degree pattern. Don't know if it can simply be redrilled.
Don't fancy having to put a hump into my load bed... But it's loads cheaper than a new kep adapter kit... Gah! |

my KEP adapter and presumably yours too has three sets of holes drilled: vertical, 15 degrees from vertical and 50 degrees from vertical. Just unbolt and rebolt. Simple!!
it bolts to the engine and then you have the choice of three sets of drillings to fit it to the gearbox with. |

Blinding. The pic I have does have all 3 sets of holes. The vendor's a bit vague about what angle the engine ends up at and I guess didn't know what the extra holes were for.

does anyone know of any other places i can get hold of an adapter & flywheel for putting an I4 into my doka? |

How about making your own?
This are the measures for the 827 block
The four studs on the aircooled-box have a circle of 296mm. The both upper ones have an angel of 2x42 degree, the two lower one have an angel of 2x45 degree. Meassured from the center.
You use the stock inline-engine starter, flywheel and clutch. Donīt forget a pilot bearing.

Now, wait a minute... The TDI's share the same pattern, that means that I don't have to re-measure my engine!
