Could some tell me what triggers the intercooler pump? On the only diagram I've seen it looks like it's triggered from something called the MPFI which I don't have. Should it run continuously or triggered like the rad fans or from somewhere else on the ECU - if so where?
Thanks

My impreza ecu pin out doesn't suggest any signs of a specific pump control.
I think with the legacy charge cooler pump it's a two speed pump and is controlled by the ecu. But I'm not sure on that.
The pump I'm running is only a single speed so I chose to run it from the ignition switch live.
I'm interested in this, see if I'm missing something _________________ Think......

It's a '66 T2 which I picked up as an unfinished project - to replace my beloved '63 911 bus - totalled with an engine fire!!!. I've gone 'between the rails' for the main rad and the intercooler rad sits behind it. I've pulled the loom out and am going through it - found lots of cracked cable sheath and bad joints. I'm pretty much there now but need advice on intercooler pump-
continuous or triggered - if triggered where from?
cheers |

Is your engine from a legacy? Or have you just retrofitted the Subaru chargecooler to an impreza turbo engine?
I ask this as to my knowledge (totally unconfirmed) the legacy came with a dual speed pump. One speed which is continuous, the other speed is triggered under other circumstances, Im under the impression this is at wide open throttle but have not idea. _________________ Think......

Soooooooo........
as a collective few are we all in agreance that the best solution is to run the pump on a switced live???
I've read that although mighty cool.... fitting a turbo timer is not a good idea for the turbo subaru engines. As my Ipreza came with one I was toying with the idea of running the chargecooler pump from the timer instead.
Can't remember why its no good to run a timer on these engines, thinking its to do with the oil pressure and the turbo not lubricating or something. _________________ Think......

Hi
I only turn my pump on when the motor is warmed up. I have a programmable ECU so I'm thinking of using the one of the fan outputs to turn the pump on when the coolant gets to 75-80 c

That's too hot for a chargecooler, the coolant should be no hotter then 40degrees Celsius.
I've recently changed my charge cooler rad to an Audi aircon radiator, I've also fitted some ac fans to this radiator to keep things cool. I'm toying with the idea for a thermo switch to activate the fans at around 50degrees Celsius and cutting out around 40. _________________ Think......
