Alright lads how’s it hanging?
I'm involved in a company that makes bespoke vehicle parts, with a small but highly sought after must-have range - steering/suspension parts.
My thing is research and development. I find the gaps in the market and design suitable parts for manufacture.
I'm a long term vw fan both air and water cooled, in the earlier nineties I made my own steering wheel for my karmann ghia and in recent years I have modified steering wheels from different makes to fit both mine and my mates mk.2/3/4 golfs.
At the moment I am working on a wheel for a t25 as well as many other mods - fully operational air conditioning, cheap disc brake upgrade, conversion all round, totally adjustable suspension upgrade, all round. I’d like to see what the market thinks on this.
The way I'm thinking is most people who might change their steering wheel on a t25 are camper folk? 30 upwards age group? More interested in substance than style/ function over form? Help me out here? Am I right in thinking this?
I'm a big lover of modified VWs but I think maybe driving long distances, carbon fibre and bling is less important??
So here is where I am at.......... for a T25 wheel what would be your preference
(a) nice polished wood rim and leather and maybe quick fit/release swivel pivot like used on heavy steering larger vehicles or on a disabled drivers steering wheel for use when parking on camping sites?? (And while I’m asking, is the pivot point a good or bad idea?)
(b) Flat bottom leather covered steering wheel like that on the Mk5 Golf gti or R32.
Thanks, Keith
