seen a mk5 glof with a rear shunt! was thinking that with only 4000 miles on the clock I love that engine in my bus!!!!!!!!!! love

has anyone done it and able to passon how?
seem to remeber a bloke putting a pd engine into a split
all avice greatfully recieved
or is there another conversion I should look at
I need reliability, economy and more grunt!!!!!

You're right about there being a split bus out there I believe Richbaker78 has met him at a show. From what I remember from the article the main issue he had was the electrics and the built in immoblizer

his answer was to bung the dash out of the donor vehicle under the rear seat

I have a copy of the split article at home if you want me to scan it in for you.

Personally I reckon that if you got the £'s and ability or know someone with the ability (welding fabricating electrics..) then go for it I'm sure you'll get plenty of help from here and the rest of the web. At the end of the day it has been done in a Split so you should be able to squeeze it into your bay I'm sure.

At the end of the day there isn't that much to a conversion.. get a adapter bolt on the engine to the box, plug it in and away you go

In theory it's that simple.. in practice

There are plenty of other options but for speed, mpg, reliability Tdi is da man. Standard TD conversion are more simple (less electrics headache) and definately a cheaper way to go.

yep the problem was as you say - he had the golf speedo module mounted under the rear seat!! he also had a pretty handy electronics boff of a mate to help him out tho.

HE also told me he had added an extra radiator since the article due to heating probs. THey were flat mounted under the rear belly pans.

must dig out that artical.
so what he actually did was transplant the whole caboodle into the back of the bus. the starter could be an issue I will be plonking it onto the vw gear box!
any other info would be great.

He used a modified golf turbo diesel starter on his !

The guys name is Graham Colledge from Oldbury in West Midlands.

I'm really interested in this conversion, i have got a 1.9 tdi pd passat and its a great engine, i would love to stick this in my bay but would really want the 5 speed gearbox in there too. Anyone done this? I read somewhere that someone cut the end of the box off and re welded it upside down? Anyone else heard or done thisany info would be great
