My water temperature gauge became erratic and I couldn't fix it so I bought a VDO one with matching sender unit. Out of interest I tested the gauge before Installation, with the sender held in a pan of continuously boiling water at sea level. The gauge would not read above 95deg C.
Has anyone else tried this test and managed to get their gauge to read 100deg C? |

I've now tested another new water temperature sender and gauge the same way and got a reading of 94degC.
Does this mean that when my gauge has occasionally reached 100degC, the true temperature has been 4 or 5 degrees higher?
Or is there some rational reason that the boiling water test gives a reading of below 100degC. |
