Subaru Heater bypass adaptor

and then look at the images on the highlighted "thermostat housing"

This adaptor cures the problem of the stat not opening in cold weather due to heat loss in the heater matrix.
Tom makes these for the EJ22 engines & I'm going to find out if they also fit the EJ20 (mine).

The price for one (2-3 weeks shipping from Canada) works out IRO £40, £8 of this is postage.

I'm prolly going to order 2, is anyone else interested in one? (final prices to be worked out just before order)

Answers by next Wed if poss (23rd Nov) cos my van's cold, the electric blanket rocks but it doesn't de-mist the window!

ill be the guinea (sp?) pig for the turbo engine...since i have 2 heaters it sounds like a good idea....

I spoke to Tom in quite some detail about this when developing my cooling circuit. He says you only need them if regularly drive in sub zero temps even with 2 heaters. He lived over here years ago, so knows our climate, and says it's not cold enough.
I've found a very useful contact - an expert in cooling system design. I understand it all a lot better since he's described a few things. He's shown me a special thermostat in a remote housing which also does the job of the automatic heater bypass valve too. I'll be testing one at some point.....
