Funny right, how it takes time to gain faith in the vehicle. While technically it just works or it doesn't.

I feel the same way and want to put as many miles on it before we go on holiday with it!

So how did the first ride go?

Mine went fine (see my thread) but as you, I am not amazed with the power. I am gonna look into that.

Still, I cruised at 110 kph, which is 20 kph faster compared to original engine! :-)
And I had power left.

Went really well on a 60 ish mile run to Lincoln. Camped the weekend. Highest the temp got to was 70 deg' going up hill fighting a very stiff wind. Power was good. Getting used to the gearing. You can get re mapped ecu's for around £125 in the UK. Increased torque and bhp of 137 bhp. Here are a few photo's of scoops before grills and painting. Engine and cab area.

Pleased yours went well Wil'.

Intercooler scoop.

Nice to hear, and lovely van!!

Power was good: you mean amazing or just good? Cruising in fifth was fine?

(I am looking for comparisons, as my power is good as well but not as amazing as I would have expected. Note: as I only made a first run, I was also quite careful so I didn't floor it all the time nor did I try top speed)

Edit: if those 70 degrees come from original sensor, your engine is running cold which is not good. It should hit 90. Although I experienced most TDI's from the 98 (or so) run just under 90, based on original dash. I had several and they all never hit 90. Always a bit under, like 85. but 70 is too low.

Check location of sensor. This makes huge difference.

today I fixe the oil lamp, using a switch relais. This is jus like an ordinary relais, only on or off, but output 1 or 2.

using pin numbers:
85= ignition feed
86= oil pressure sensor
30= ignition feed
87a= not used
87b= to light in dash

works perfect now!!

at the moment working on a coolant level sensor, also with warning light when level gets low. Dont know yet how the sensor in the original passat reservoir works. Any ideas? you have a light for this?

Thanks for the relay advice. I have a plug and wire for the coolant level in the header tank. I have not yet got around to adding a light yet.

For my cool running I am going to change my thermostat as apparently they fail open so the coolant is continually flowing. Hopefully this will sort it.

The coolant sensor in the coolant reservoir is based on resistance etc. doesn't work like the oil lamp (which is simply on or of).

I am gonna use the original loom and connect the coolant level wire to the Passat dash to a light I already have in the dash.

Just have to figure out which wire it is.

I have this part of the loom ready to attach if you want a pic. It may help ?

Went on Vagcom yesterday. Water temp gauge is reading 20.5 degrees less than engine. Engine is running between 87-90 so all ok.

Been out and about a lot lately. Every weekend. Seem to be having intermittent gear selection problems. Going to check the universal joints and hydraulics etc today. Hopefully it is something simple. Fingers crossed.
