Afternoon folks
Just a quick question re the cooling pipes people are using on their conversions.
Ive read all about copper/steel/ali etc and wondering if you are able to use something like "stainless steel flexible exhaust pipe" along with a good coolant to protect against corrosion ?

I did everything using regeluar coolant hoses. Rubber, flexible, easy to cut. only the connections were made, using steel connectors.
So far, so good! available at many diameters, available at any length.
How are you gonna make proper, watertight connections with the flexible exhaust? Welding? _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

thanks for the reply..
Was thinking of it being in one length as its flexible to run along the shape of the beetle under the car from the rear to the front
but yes weld if needed, using the rubber wont it split if its caught ? |

Any thing will split if it gets caught.
Is that exhaust flexi watertight under pressure? Also what grade is it? It may still corrode, ever had a long life stainless exhaust made? They still corrode.
I've gone for copper tube. All is fine but I use a quality antifreeze. _________________ Think......

I used 28mm copper tube for main runs front to back. You can get plenty of reducers both in copper or silicone. I also had a pipe bender for the copper AND I believe you can get flexible copper tube, dunno about 28mm though. _________________ Think......

Hi
I used 1.5 inch stainless tubes and had a kink put in them so that they line up with the depression in the chassis for the heater channel bolts then I had more 1.5 inch tubes made up join the motor and radiator, all my joiners are straight 1.5 inch radiator hose. I built a 2.1 WBX Beetles in the 80s and I made the mistake of using many different shaped hose, too much trouble to carry spares.
