Right then, back from my holidays to Le Man and Spa

Headed off very early on Wednesday 27 July with a group of mates in their stock powered bugs and buses.

We made it to the ferry without any dramas except my kombi was smoking a lot and stinking of gearbox oil. I sealed up the breather pipe and that soon stopped the smoke and bad smells

So on to the ferry and next stop France.




We got a bit split up on the way down to Le Man but I was kind of glad about that as it meant I could stretch the kombi's legs a bit.




I arrived 2hrs ahead of everyone else to the first campsite in Alencon

I love having a rag top bus. Mornings are great



The weather was stunning with high 20's low 30's

We headed off two days later to Le Man, glad to see some clouds and lower temperatures, still bloody warm though! The cooling on the kombi was working very well.



The Super VW Show is fantastic. Very well organised with heaps to do and see.
We got set up on site, which included free showers, and electric hook up and were only 40 foot from the dance area (no need for a tent!)

So Le Man was fantastic and I would highly recommend it

Anyways, on wards and heading North. This time a smaller ferry just outside Le Harve





It was a mission getting on and off due to the angle of the deck and the slope of the concrete ramp but I got there in the end

A couple of days on the campsite just outside Le Harve and then started to head East towards Spa.
Then the weather turned to sh*t.



We got just past Abbeville and stopped for lunch. As I pulled into the carpark of the road side cafe I lost powersteering.
I parked up, hopped out and noticed the drive belt dangling below my rear valance. I thought to myself it must have thrown the belt, but no biggy, I'll grab something to eat, wait for the rain to stop and then sort it.

Once fed we all headed back out to the car park. I opened the engine lid and to my horror found the crank pulley bolt snapped. The pulley was trapped between the end of the crank and the rear valance and the woodruff key way was smashed to pieces.
I had zero options but to call my Eruopean breakdown service.

An hour or so later and the kombi was taken away for 'inspection'


I knew they wouldnt fix it so I hopped into one of my mates kombi's and we set off once again for Belgium.
Two days later I got a call from the breakdown service saying they couldnt fix the problem so they would repatriate my kombi to the UK.

It certainly did I must admit I was having a great time up until that point but I was constantly worried that something was going to go wrong. Once it had spat its dummy I relaxed a lot more
It would have been great to have made to entire 1200 mile trip trouble free but this is a very odd failure, much like the gear shift cable breaking, so I guess its just my poo luck that was the issue.

Onwards and upwards......
(once I get the kombi back, still no word as to when it will be returning from France!! )

Looks like you had an awesome little holiday there. I heard yours was not the only casualty in the group.



You know if you'd have fitted a turbo motor this would of never of happened
