I've been involved in the VW scene in Australia for close to 35 years now and always wanted to run wheel tubs and big rubber under the rear of the lawn mower variety.

Short story is , that I bought a running beetle and removed the body.
Then proceeded to change ball joint front to link pin. Build a 6" narrow beam, raise the the engine and gearbox, narrow the rear torsion housing and axles 6"
and finally fitted some street strip tyres..
The next job was to find a suitable body to fit to the floorpan.

I bought an old fibreglass ski boat and fitted that for a while and ran it at car shows etc.
After that was removed I installed a B1 passat body for a year or 2 before finally settling on the latest incarnation.
The early 60s Fastback is the closest I have been to achieving the full pro street look i love.
To complete the picture , the next change will be to install the 2.8 VR6 motor I recently removed from my SplitR32 bus.. Hoping to turn the fastback in to a burnout car for the comps we have in Australia.
