Jobs done since last update.
+ stripped out the Passat loom out of the rubber encasing. (Lovely job)
+ tightened up connections where I thought there may have been any boost leaks.
After reading of Trev's issues. This may to be continued.....
+ replaced the bloody power steering pump on the daily bmw e39, eating up valuable 'bus time' in the process.
+ lied on my back and envisaged where and how to mount an exhaust.
+ fitted genuine 64-66 VW t-coded lock set I got from the states.
The bus is now on one key for all locks and ignition.
Who hoo. (Even though the Passat immob key is now being used to start her up.)

Jobs to do when next I get a couple of hours on the old girl.
- make up exhaust. Spend time at it and make it decent.
- extend ignition loom up to the cab so I can cycle ignition on/off in event of limp mode or similar.
Running back to the engine bay where ignition is, is a pain in the ass.
- plug in fault scanner or vag com and see faults logged.
- drive it back the lane with some form of tow person+vehicle at the ready for the inevitable breakdown after the 1/4 mile crawl back the road.

The 2.5 yr old and the 9 week olds' mother will be returning to work soon.
So I need to get some bits done while we are both off and at home.

Did I remove it from view

It is here HERE but I know I did go for a more 'lite' touch on the forum so this might have been part of the site which got hidden away. I'm getting grief from my hosting to sort out the site as it's all a bit out of date.. job for New Year which I really can't be arsed with and rather use that time to play with Bus and Mk1 Golf

Happy New Year

I'm still alive.
Took it out to dust off some cobwebs.
Still haven't plugged it into vagcom or similar.
Thinking it might be the turbo vanes sticking causing limp mode.
If I get time I might whip it off and investigate.
Otherwise been playing around with the cargo doors to get fitment better.
And fitted bay window wipers with modified classic mini wipers arms.

Also put tall tyres on the 16 inch Porsche fuchs.
Killed two birds with one stone.
Lifted driveshafts a little more, and
Narrowed the track width enough to alleviate the substantial rubbing on the wheel archs.

Size now: 175/75/16 C. . Rears off of twin wheel transit Chassis cab.

Going to dedicate one afternoon a week from now. Get it done.

Note to self, tidy up that radiator on the belly.
Might do up a fake belly pan or similar. Take the complicated look from it.

So yes. I’m still here.
3 kids now.
If I find the man responsible. LOL

So bus update.

I’m Mtdi now.
Fitted the Landy 300tdi pump.
Changed over turbo and manifold for a wastegate one.
Ditched all the ecu completely..

So now I’m one wire.

It’s was running beautifully. But then one day on another test run up the back road. It hit a pot hole and my inadequate engine mounts or insufficient rear suspension conked the engine and it wouldn’t start.
So towed it the 100 yards or so home.
On closer inpectuin. The timing belt had slipped A LOT.
I’ve put this down to a worn tensioner pulley.
So I’ve changed it out and re timed everything. Don’t forget I’ve no tdc reference on gearbox bell housing after flipping the box.
But got it timed and eventually and now it starts. On the button again.
Hopefully no damage done.

Meanwhile I picked up a spare donor engine and box.
A ‘99 Audi A4. It an ahu 90bhp.
But for 200 euro I couldn’t turn it down.
It drove perfectly and has 180k on the clock.
So for €200
I now have:
Spare wastegate turbo.
Spare starter.
Spare alternator.
Spare intercooler.
Spare Engine.
Spare Gearbox (unflipped)

I’d be tempted to pick up a cheap landy pump and build this engine up ready to drop in should I need to rebuild the existing lump.

I also picked up a t4 caravelle.
Gonna try it as a daily driver.
It’s only the 88bhp version.
But it’s a nice bus.
Hard to give up my trusty
BMW e39 525d though.
Ive had seven of them.

We will see.
Stand by for pics of my messing about.

Oh yeah.
I hit the big 4 0 this day week.

HaHa.
No the beamers are great.
It’s just that each time I sell one.
I say no way am I getting another.
The 2.5litre is €1080 per year road tax.
The 3.0litre is €1494 per year.
BUT I love the e39 so much it’s been a distraction
from this project so many times.
I always end up buying another one.

Big push this time to make headway on the splitty and get it roadworthy.
My brakes are currently very sticky. So need to address that.
I think they are hampering me big time.
