Thought I'd share a few pics with you all......
This is my first ever Bay window and a Baptism Of Fire... I bought it In Sept 2005 from eBay for only £400 and for all it's a complete wreck I was instantly hooked. I decided from the start that I'd try to make my own repair panels to make it more of a challenge and so far I've only bought 2 front wheel arches and an inner sliding door section and have managed to complete the pasenger side...... Still a way to go yet though.

This is underside of sliding door after all the filler was removed to reveal a nice bit of dexion shelving holding it together.... Nice......

I'll post more later....

Here's a few more pics . . . .

Sliding door had lots of rot around the window area both inside and out due to someone stuffing loads of toilet roll inside the hole before covering with filler which made a bad job even worse.

Welding repairs begin

Making the inner and outer corner section to the door on both ends including the window rubber lip was a bit of a pain to do due to the shape but got there eventually.

Once the sliding door was more or less welded up etc I decided to remove the cargo floor as there was a bit of rot under there. Once the floor was up it became apparent that the rot was far worse than I first thought but at least it was easier to get access with grinder. Someone in the past had gone mental with tubes of bathroom silicone and stuck plates down all over the place including the drivers side outrigger/jacking point which I simply pulled off with my hand complete with a chunk of main chassis... Not ideal really.

4 days of cutting, making parts and endless welding and it looked like this..

Then it was back down with the floor and on with the next job

For those who might be interested I thought I'd post a picture of my Covin which I built back in 2000 and currently in regular use. See www.covin.co.uk for further info.

That's all for now as I best get back into the garage and get cracking... Wink

Thanks JP . . .

Yes it was Orange at one time under about 20 layers of paint including a coat of Dulux white gloss .... YUCK ....
I've already decided on the colour and have painted in the door checks on pasenger side..... I went for a Mellow Yellow.
I love the pale Blue as well and that was my other choice.
Here's a preview pic . . . .

It's a shame your selling your Boxster. Now there's a really nice car.
I think you'd notice the lack of refinement in a Covin but having said that the Covin is very cheap to run/maintain and mine is Tax exempt which is great. Grin I love the Covin but I must confess this Camper project has really taken a hold on me and I can't wait to get it finished..... Could be a mid life crisis..... lol

When is a door NOT a door ?
When it looks like this . . .

Had to order a bit more sheet metal to repair this rotten door. Another slight problem was it was bent out of shape top and bottom by 3 inches so that made things tricky.....

Making the door seal channels and lower section near the step was a pain as was the home made lower door skin but got there in the end.

Next job was to primer the door checks ready for paint so doors could be fitted back on.

Progress at last . . . . More to follow.

Cheers JP
It all adds to the fun of the re-build really.
Just had a 1971 Bay delivered all the way from Devon today. It needs some work to say the least and I'll be re-building that one for a friend of mine during the next couple of months. I'm trying to convince him to go Water-cooled.
I must be going through a mid life crisis either that or losing the plot......lol

No I don't do this for a living it's just a hobby. I'm a Refrigeration engineer by trade but do have a bit of spare time.
I've always loved messing about with cars and I have thought about the possibilities of making some sort of living out of it on a small scale but not sure if there would be enough work to maintain a reasonable wage.... You never know, anything can happen in the future I suppose.
I've built a few cars for friends but never for anyone else.... YET.....lol
I only wish I'd started doing a Camper a few years ago as I'm really hooked now. . . . Is that normal ?

You should have no probs with sorting out the cooling then given your trade Grin

Tiz most definately normal to get hooked/obsessed , it's a addiction worse than smoking or drugs IMO, also has the same effect on the bank acount

Grin Ahhh... Right.... So I'm NOT going through a mid life crisis then ?
This obsession with the Camper is normal.... Wait till my wife reads this. She was going to book me into the local nut house. . . lol
When I built the Covin I was hooked. But this Camper is something else. Your right, it's an addiction..... What's a bank account....lol
