Need to do the fuel return on my tank as the bodge artist that did it originally T'd into the breather this resulted in diesel coming out the breather pipe Imagine what MPG I'd of been getting if this was done properly !
Anyway what cunning ways have you guys tapped into your tanks ?

Blimey that's a set up didn't even consider coming from below.. so does that copper pipe return the fuel into the middle of the tank _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Almost to the far left of the tank, look at the length when it's on the tank.
I think I said in the write up that I bent the tube, put some coathanger wire UP the fitting. Insert the copper tubing through the fuel level sender hole, kink coat hanger end and shove up pipe, guide the pipe in while pulling the wire.
Solder up end (if you need to, my FP inlet was 12mm) remembering to put on olive first. That's 10mm OD tube.
Edit:
8mm copper tube not 10. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I remember there being another thread recently about this but I couldn't find it. Any way, are the parts 13 and 17 part of the breather setup or some over fill bit? I was thinking about using this as my fuel return as it seems to be seperate from the rest of the breather setup.
cheers

That's better
Have you got two breathers on the tank?
I know quite a few people have done the return to a breather.
I personally didn't want to do that _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

That looks like where mine originally T'd into and was causing diesel to come up through 13 & 17 and leaking out the filler ! I presume that 13 goes into the breather on top of the tank ! _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

I guess i'd better avoid doing that then! I was orignally looking at fitting a tube into the lower part of the filler neck, pointing down into the tank. But i don't think it's removable so i don't think it's any advantage over taking the tank out.
Quite reluctant to do anywork on the tank cos I recently did a repair on the tank of my polo and it was a pain to get sealed properly!
cheers

Maybe a stupid question, but I never understood the function of those lines going up in the vent holes. You know, those two with a small expansion. I've been playing around with cars since I was a kid and have never seen it on any other car...
What are they for?

Hi
It is my be leaf that 10 & 10a are condensers, as they are in the upward line from the tank so turning the petrol vapour back into liquid to run back into the tank.
On my van 1.9TD I have just removed one vents 24 and taken fuel return to it.
The problem if you just T into it, is that on most closed loop fuel systems fuel is being pumped around the system at high pressure all the time and you only uses what you need when you open the throttle, so then at idle pressure can be higher than the pipe can cope with, so the fuel takes the line of least resistance goes up the vent pipe.
