I bought another golf and am now using the ECU immobiliser, key and ring from it, however I now cant get it to start
Trying to get it running fully as it was in the golf it came from using the ECU and original pump. Have the original key taped to the immobiliser ring thing...
Got it wired up and all connectors reconnected. When you power it up you get the battery light and the glow plug comes on, however the rest of the original dash is blank, no mileage readings or anything. The glowplug light goes out again so assume its working properly
Tried spinning it for a while, it has fired a couple of times, but wont fully catch, took one of the pipes off the injector and there was no fuel, apart from when it randomly fired at that point it fired a little, then the fuel stopped again. Thought about trying to take out the fuel cut of solenoid, however am not too sure what I am doing. Does this seem likely to be the problem, or is it just likely to be airlocked or something?
Also any ideas why the instruments are blank and would this be indicating something is missing?

I have had a look over it and I have a red wire with a single black connector on the end coming from the back of the instrument pod. There is also a black cable with 3 connectors on it which goes to one that has only 2 wires on it. I assume this has snagged or tugged somewhere and these have become loose.
Basically the van has 2 looms in it the now, the vans loom, not connected to engine components/sensors and the golfs loom connected to all the engine sensors ecu instrument panels fusebox etc.
I have done a VAGCOM scan and will rerun it with a registered version tomorrow. The results were:

Go inside drink beer been messing with it on and off all day time to give up after i ran the test.
Hmm found out what the other codes mean:
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
00522 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)
Sounds like I have a bit of work to do with the wiring... Or need to find a way around the immobiliser... Hopefully vagcom can do it..... _________________ http://www.latebay.co.uk

Progress.....
Have got the dials powered up now and goes to the "in 02" when firing up. Reckon I'm about there (touch wood). The starter is really slow in it so going to sort that out before going any further. Only problem is i can't erase fault codes, Vagcom tells me to buy the professional interface  So don't know what problems are there from previous and what have gone away....
Does anyone know what this is? It was hanging around in the engine bay and i can't find where it should go or a picture of it in the haynes manual..

Dunno if this helps but my Scooby transponder didn't like being taped to the 'ring thing'. Tape it to a screwdriver then insert screwdriver into the ring, like the key would be. I've spaced mine with 15mm waterpipe lagging, works a charm. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
