T25 engine swap (scooby)

Anybody running an EJ20 (non turbo) in a wedge ? Got a few questions if you don't mind

1- How easy was the conversion ?

2- What's it like now compared to before?

3- Would you do it again, and if so is there anything you would do differently next time ?

Was going to put an EJ25 in, but have been told by a few people that they have some overheating issues. So now i'm trying to decide between 125bhp- EJ20.......or..........280bhp- EJ20 turbo.

No brainer i hear you cry, but i'd like to do a fair few long trips around the country and europe without putting myself in the poor house !!!

what sort of MPG you getting with your turbo if it's not a daft question ?

I've got one and it's not that bad. Only thing is watch out for the immobiliser on the later ones. I still haven't got mine started. We think it might be a mismatch of parts.

I was going to add a link to the page on choosing a Subaru engine too, but I've just discovered it's not working. Must investigate and fix it. Instead, hopefully this info from the Ultra VW article will help:

1996 - 1999 EJ25 engines are DOHC. Later ones are SOHC. The DOHC ones often are not unknown to suffer from head hasket failire. The failure is of the gasket itseld, and very rarely results in damage to the block or head. Subaru fixed the problem by redesigning the gasket, and these are relatively easy to retrofit. The only problem is that they cost about £60 each! This problem is unique to DOHC EJ25's, and may not always be a problem, as you may well be able to get hold of one with a blown gasket very cheaply, repair it, and end up with a cheap engine. EJ25's are notthe easiest engines to find in the UK. Most Legacies and all n/a Impreza's are EJ20 or smaller.

Just an add on, but the van (T25) was a 1.6Td and has a five speed box.

Question :- Is anybody on here running a conversion with this box and if so how are the ratios and has it held together ?

i personally would change to a 4 speed petrol box.or even better a 2.0 t25 lawn mower box and dont forget the whole linkage from gearshift back to box
