rear mounted radiator

This is what ive done so far on the cooling side. The engine is a tdi XUD from a citroen zx. The radiator is from same vehicle and ive virtually plumbed it in as it was originally . Ive managed to connect the heater hoses to a fan / matrix Ive got set up in the cab.
I cant figure out the wiring to enble the fans to operate by thermotstat so currently its a case of keeping eye on temp gauge and seperate switch to power them up.
Its bloody ugly I know and not even sure if legal! HAs anyone any suggestions on how I might hide the rads?
I thought I might get some chrome central heating pipes (about 6 lengths) bending them at the ends to fit around the rads, attaching them to some sturdy mesh and just bolt it to the radiator shroud?
Any other thoughts ?

I also put my rad at the back of my type 2 1.9 TD, but it would only keep it cool upto 50mph a big rad 3.5 range rover with twin fans.
I then put air scoops ect but could only manage 55mph without the fans coming on.
I then put a rad on the front as well as the back fans only came on in traffic and up and down 85 to 93c.
I did not like the rad on the front so I have put it under the van, but now the fans are coming on over 65/70mph so a bit more work yet.

I've got a rear mounted radiator in my bug, scooping air from under the car. There just isn't enough airflow in the back of a vehicle. I think this has something to do with turbulance under the car. Maybe scooping air in from the sides will work better.

I now wired up my twin fans so they are working in series all the time. In series they turn at half the speed. And when the radiator temp switch switches on, both the fans turn at full speed (fans working in parallel).
This is the wiring diagram I eventually came up with:

You need two "normal" relays and one switching relay.

The wiring works, but I still have to do a test run to see how the cooling goes.

Hi steviedee I also was another that has switched from rear to front mounted rad. The rear worked fine but the fans were on all the time and I did rely on my heating system to get me out of trouble. I ran the rear rad system for a couple of years though, before i changed it to a front mounted system.

Great to see another van about to hit the road. Keep it up.
