Any one know where you can get a longer accelerator cable than the standard bay? Are T25 cables much longer?

Cheers

Tom

You could have one made up that's longer, people mention "Speedy Cables" for that.
I've used 2 bus ones joined with a couple of solderless nipples. Not had a prob in 18mths or so

you can buy bike cable (stuff used for brakes etc) off the reel in bike shops / ebay. YOu can use bike fittings at either end and have it running in an outer cable to keep it smooth etc. Thats what I ve done - so at least you can have exactly the length required and its cheap.

i bought a reel of brake cable biled as clutch cable on ebay and it's far too small a diameter. would undoubtedly snap at teh first inopportune junction! reckon if you jointed 2 like ES says and make the joint where you can get at it to repair should you need to

Nice one cheers,

I know from my riding days that you can get thick brake cabling for BMX and trials - but I'm unsure as to whether this would be readily available and it's probably in set lengths. I'll have a look though. I do have an old broken cable so I may insert a length of this around the beam area, simply so that I can use a Ford outer and spring mech from the end of the steel routing to the engine bay. Many Thanks

Tom

I wonder if Rich may be thinking of motorbike wires. Can be bought in any well sorted MC store, and those you can't snap.

My join is just past the rear cross member. I cut out a 2-3" section of the steel conduit.
VW didn't use an outer sleeve. But if you want to re-route the cable and put in some bends it's ideal to use an outer. RB told me ages ago that you can buy the 'doofahs' that are welded to a bike frame, which the outer sits in (along with a ferrel end)

hi mate, what exactly are solderless nipples? im using 3 electrical block connectors in series at the moment while tinkering on the drive, i am joining the bus cable to ford cable. they have held up well and thought about then soldering them too, but if theres an alternative i would be interested. thanks, mike.

They're sorta like the bits in electrical connectors.

Mine are like the top ones
I think I used 3. Did it around 2.5 years ago & no grief as yet so I think that's a good sign Happy

You can also use them on the carb/TB end (which is what they were designed for)
