hi there, been looking on this forum for a while now getting ideas, this is my first post.
im looking to do a golf gti conversion in my bay, i've been collecting the bits i need, so far i've got 2.0 6 rib gearbox, a mk3 golf gti car, t25 diesel bellhousing.
bits i still need, oil pump pick up & sump.
question for you, the t25 oil pump pick up & sump i need is that off a diesel engine too?
also what starter motor do i use?
many thanks brucie |

Hi Brucie,
I am doing the same conversion (slowly...) you need to use the starter, sump and pickup off the diesel engine too.
Have you taken the engine out the golf yet? If so you might find it has a weird back-to-front style flywheel and clutch, I was quite suprised when I found it on mine! If you do you will have to use the diesel flywheel as well (although others may fit, I just used the diesel as I had the whole diesel engine).
Hope this helps, Rich. _________________ It WILL be ready for the summer, just like it was going to be ready for last summer. And the one before that... |

many thanks for your reply, i picked up my golf gti last night(jan 14th) like you it will be an ongoing project.
just collecting all the parts at moment.
what about engine mounts i take it you use the t25 aswell?
i've heard people saying about the back to front flywheel, what year mk is the golf engine you got? mines a mk3 98.
thanks brucie |

It's been so long I had forgotten the engine mounts! Yeah, I used the cast aluminium mounts, and the rubber blocks, and the steel tubes which bolt too the chassis, but as long as you have the ally mounts the rest you can fabricate.
I was fortunate and had the entire engine/gearbox assembly from the T25, so I literally removed the diesel lump and put the gti in its place (then sold the diesel engine with all the golf bits on as a golf engine )
If you have the T25 engine, put it next to the golf lump and see whats different, I have a feeling I used some of the coolant pipes too.
My golf was K reg (93?) one of the first mk3's. It had sills so rotten I could literally wave my hands around inside them _________________ It WILL be ready for the summer, just like it was going to be ready for last summer. And the one before that... |

Yeah the golf engine went in my bay too, but like I said, I bought the whole T25 assembly and it came with engine mounts.
Did you also get the diesel gearbox input shaft? Some say you need to fit that to your bay gearbox, but I cant remember much difference in length.
There should be a guide on here regarding the swap. _________________ It WILL be ready for the summer, just like it was going to be ready for last summer. And the one before that... |

hi smoothlookinbay, i havent got the diesel input shaft from the diesel gearbox. what i've read & been told from others is you need to cut 5mm off the input shaft, i've got a 2.0 6 rib gearbox going in
nearly there with the parts, found someone local to me breaking a t25 diesel, so grabed all the bits i need from them. |
