Hi lads just wondering does anyone on here have info or pictures of there gear linkage from tdi passat flipped box in a bay or split as this is puzzling me

Basically there are 2 ways of doing it.

1: use cables. Porsche boxter will happily provide you with parts. See this thread:

2: use the more-or-less stock rod system. Just connect the rod that went to your original box, to the little rod sticking out of the TDI box. like this:

The cables work, but they are stiff so you cannot easily work them out of your sight and you will get a sort of column between the two front seats on which you have to mount the gear selector.
The rod system works, you get to keep original gear selector, but you might get a wrong shifting pattern. I havent read any comments on that. I am busy getting this working, and will post updates in my build thread.

Ultimate engineering will sell you a cable shifter kit. It's mostly designed for a T25 however they sell the bits separately so you could pick and choose the parts you could adapt to fit your bus.

Cheers lads No:2 connecting the rod to the box looks like its easy plus with a bit of work it could be raised and tightened up with maybe a u joint or something

Hello,

yes, I used a double joint and that works well. One problem I encounterd is the lengt of the shift. You need to adjust the floorplate of the gear selector to increase the length it can move cause otherwise it is just not enough for the passat box.

I really prefer the rod linkage option over cables. I have never seen a cable setup I really like, as in most cases you would loose the walkthrough.

I desperately want to work on the bus again and than I can show some pics.

has nobody thought to mount the cable shifter base under the cab floor with just the gear stick poking up through, like the stock shifter?
