Right maf issue sorted, swapped it for a brown label one and codes gone....
Now the ecu is flashing
Code 35, wtf is purge circuit????
Any idea what this means? Should the led flash at all if I have no faults???
I'm impressed you sourced a brown label MAF. Reading about them on the internet it's all doom and gloom about an obsolete part now with no alternative other then a complete rewrite to run on an alternate ECU.
Purge control solinoid, on a UK WRX vehicle it's located underneath the inlet manifold. It's a solinoid valve associated with the emissions control. Fuel vapour from the fuel tank is collected and the purge control solinoid valve vents these vapours into the charcoal canister. It's something like that anyway. Look for a blue plug Underneath the inlet manifold. You should follow the 3rd 6mm fuel line (if it has this). I've no idea is this applies to your engine but I'm thinking their isn't much dofference in the wiring with the four plug ECU's. Probably wrong though.
Have you sourced the correct wiring diagram yet?
The neutral position switch you can get away with just earthing to the chassis. This tells the ecu you are in a gear.
The cold start circuit which is pretty important tells the ecu when your are cranking the starter motor and will adjust the fuelling to get the engine running.
LED will flash a constant on off on off on off when no errors are detected. _________________ Think......
I "borrowed" the brown label maf off my dads ej22 karmann Ghia. He's part way through a full resto so I have a year or so it find one.
I'm still getting code 35 but it's running sweet so I guess that's just due to the way it's wired up as the charcoal canister is no longer present.
Cold start is all sorted now.
And finally the reason it was firing at the wrong point was.....a poor Earth on the ecu sensor earth connection.
Thanks for all the help guys, I'll have a further look into the purge thing and see if I can get rid of code 35 but for now I'm happy. Just need to tidy the wiring up now.
