65 Split upgrade

Ahhhh yes, I forgot to mention the removal of the stock Subaru thermostat, you definitely have to remove that!!!!

I removed the centre of the stock thermostat so that I could retain a ring of steel that can support the rubber seal on the thermostat housing.

And this was the rather large chunk of cr@p that was in the end of my rocker shaft causing the oil starvation to the lifters. It is a piece of kitchen roll in case you're wondering.

That's a mighty interesting find I might add.

The guy who rebuilt my gearbox recommended that I send him my tappets so I can have them refurbished.... well cleaned I think is a more precise way to describe it. I must look it up and see if I can find more info in this. Dunno if that's any use to you lol.

Lifters are easy to bleed. They dont need to be 'refurbished'

Fecking great to see your van in the flesh. I'm immensely envious of your art work paint job. Look wicked. However, did you see the van in the lower hall, kinda done the same thing as your van but I didn't like it myself. Yours is sweet though.

Hey mate, yes I was at VoWo show. The kombi does kind of stand out so there is no denying it. hahaha
Down and back to the Midlands with out any dramas on the Saturday so it is starting to earn its corn Happy

Its been a couple of months so thought I'd do an update.

Back in March I went to the Volksworld show down in Esher.
I took a mate along whos own kombi wasnt ready in time. He wanted to leave at some stupid time in the morning to get tho the show for when it opened but I persuaded him leaving the Midlands at 'a normal time for a normal car' would be fine.

He, and a few other road users, got quite a shock that morning.

I havent been to the Volksworld show in over 10 years so was looking forward to seeing what had changed.
After we arrived (way bloody early!) we headed into Esher town centre to get a cooked breakfast, then did a tour of the car park and finally the doors opened and we headed inside.
I didnt take any pics of the cars as it was rather busy but needless to say, after 10 years of not going, it felt very much the same, which was somewhat dissapointing.
Dont get me wrong there were some very nice cars on display but for me, it wasnt anything special.

I did buy a grab handle off a guy who was selling some bits in the carpark,

and I bought a new steering wheel off an Aussie expat who gave me a very lovely discount and we ended up chatting for quite some time about living in the UK.

On the way back home I noticed a rather large cloud of smoke out the back which stopped just as quickly as it started. Luckily we were just coming up on a service station so I pulled in to have a look and discovered a split CV boot.

The smoke must have been the grease burning on the exhaust. When I got home I fitted a new boot and degreased the engine block and gearbox and that was that.

April was a total kombi free month as I had to go here for work.

Then here for some time off

And when I got back to the UK it was May already, so it was time to go and see a man about a piece of paper

Passed first time with no advisories Happy

Back in late March just before I headed away for work I had bought a new (to me) set of wheels, but they were not floating my boat.

As soon as I got back from my holiday I had them refurbed black and new lower profile rubber fitted.

Looking way better.

I'll have to take an 'after' picture with all wheels fitted, as I forgot to!

The last couple of weekends I've started working on version 2 of the interior so will need to do another update once that is sorted, but thats about all for now.

Hopefully see some of you guys out and about over the summer months

And whilst I had a field to play in I thought I'd try out the new awning rail and awning. I bought this back in January but have not put it up due to the changeable weather. Also the awning rail was a pain as I have a roof rack and didnt want to remove it.
I've tried several different ways of attaching awnings over the years and an awning rail is by far the best/easiest so coming up with a design that would work (with the three legs of the roof rack in the way) was a challenge but I reckon I've cracked it now.

I also didnt want to drill the roof to fit the awning rail so finding an adhesive strong enough was a major issue.

I bought the inner tent so I could offer a place to stay for friends/relatives if they want to stay over at shows etc. My nephew has booked his place for Bugjam this year

I've still got the old wheels but the fronts caused lots of issues being 18x8J
The 17x6.5J are so much better and the handling has improved a lot.
