clutch slip!! on veedub scooby beetle

hey dudes..
been test drivin my 1303 with 2.0 turbo and getting an inordinate amount of clutch slip.. i have had the gearbox reconditioned and have used a DS Tuning adaptor kit and am not dropping the clutch but at any kind of real progressive accel i am getting clutch slip with smoke.... understandably i dont want to fook my new clutch and gearbox up so is this just a case of adjusting wing nut on clutch cable or what else should i consider please!!!! your help appreciated..

hi rich..
i am takin some pictures tonight mate to post on the forum of me lil beast..
told 'DS tuning' from germany that i had 1303s and was using same gearbox (uprated) and then just bought the package... included new clutch, clutch plate, fly wheel.. complete adaptor kit basically.. was on the phone to them alot making sure it was the right stuff.. im gonna re check some invoices to find out exactly what they would send as standard because that is wot i was sent..!??! what r u thinking rich??

im thinking its a std clutch thats prob not up to the job and has bust the springs. or the firction plate is std which cant handle the power - I could be wrong but if its new stuff thats busting that quick then i would think it to be a spec problem.

i would have thought a 'kennedy stage 2 or equiv. would be minimum for a motor with your output.

that said ive had new clutches from GSF that have bust in weeks on a mild air cooled engine! so you could just be unlucky!

this all assumes of course that its correctly adjusted.

understand completely wot your saying but trying to stop myself panicking like a jack in the box on speed until i have adjusted the clutch cable wing nut... so if its still slipping then i can assume i am in trouble then folks and it is down to a bust spring or incorrect set up which is a one 'ell of an 'a hole' to sort out..

I was advised previously to shorten this by the ever helpful Ricola and have not done so yet.. If i have adjusted the wing nut and it is still slipping could shortening the cable make a difference because the last thing i want to do is to start changing clutch unless it is totally necessary as to my mind this is a big job and the engine must come out to do so and as you can imagine it was a mission gettin the b'stard inside a 1303s in the first place!!

The only way adjustment of the cable would be a problem of slippage is that if it was overtightened, so it doesn't sound like you need a shorter one after the trans move. I do wonder what happened with your bowden tube though, is that the same length as before but with a much bigger bend?
Has the builder just put a big spacer under the wingnut?

Have you sorted all the cooling stuff out now with the ducting as we spoke about?

am i correct in saying that bowden tube houses clutch cable as it comes out the rear??? i remember you saying about this but cant remember exactly... i have not changed the length of bowden tube so yes it will have bigger bend.. no sapcer or anything under wing nut at moment.. has not been adjusted at all..

cooling now coolio and have hammered it down moterway to glorious effect despite dropping from 4th to 3rd gear and experiencing clutch bloody slip!!

the bowden tube having a bigger kink would just make the clutch a bit heavier due to friction of the cable inside it. If it hasn't been changed that would explain the cable working OK..

I'm looking forward to a ride now Grin

If the clutch is only really slipping when you are hammering it I think it is probably just the clutch not being rated highly enough for the power...

1 x Subaru adapter with flywheel 264.66 € 1 x pledge flywheel 43.10 € 1 x clutch LUK/Sachs 3 tlg. strengthened 210mm 250.00 € Forwarding expenses 21.55 € ---------------- Net 579.31 € 16% VAT. 92,69 € ---------------- 672,00 €

this is from the invoice from DS tuning!!!

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS WOULD BE INSUFFICIENT TO TAKE THE POWER!!!

could be just a coincidence but 210mm is the same size as a bus clutch and they arent much good for over 100bhp in a bus so a little more in a beetle - but prob not the 200+ you have!!!

is all guesswork tho as you really need to know the exact clutch spec.
