I have put an EJ22 into my 1983 T3 westfalia with an RJES bellhousing and I have got it running, it still sounds a bit loud as the exhaust I have made myself is not completely tight yet.

Now I have some wiring to do as the engine is now more or less stand-alone in my car! The biggest headache is are the 4 wires that now still go to the original ignition barrel from Subaru which is how I start the engine. I have to mate this to the VW ignition barrel.

The Subaru ignition has red, black/yellow, red/yellow and blue/red.
The VW ignition has red, red/black, black/yellow and 2# black.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this as I do not know what wires should go where.

In the meantime, enjoy some pictures I have made during the conversion (more can be found on www.bvb.punt.nl)

I can't remember colours. Bear in mind this is what I did in my 78 bay

Coil supply (VW Ign live) -> I fitted a relay in engine bay for: ECU (all bar trickle supply), FI system, fan trigger wired to this
Key on, engine start (starter VW) -> solenoid for starter
