Hi...I just registered here. Im considering a swop for my T25 petrol driven Syncro. Seems like the Subaru 2,2 Legacy motor is a popular choice...but Im considering the 2,9 Scorpio engine. I can get the adaptor plate and starter motor locally (norway)...but..Im wondering about the clutch buisiness...! Whats normal with this conversion regarding cluth...and also exhaust set up...? Is it an easy conversion to do compared with the Audi V6 for example or the Subaru 2,2...? Does the original T25 gearbox/drive line tackle the extra gee gee's ok ?.. |

Welcome vwoosh
I wouldn't have thought your T25 box will have a problem with the power the clutch on the other hand.... Ideally you want to run the Scorpio clutch, it seems there are 2 approaches with clutches where some conversions use a VW clutch which allows use of the original input shaft whereas some swap the input shafts so they are VW one end (end that goes into box) and Ford or whatever the other end meaning you can run a standard clutch setup on your engine.. Exhausts aren't normally too hectic just chop up the original exhaust and ad some bends one to work out when the engine is in place but generally not one to worry about.
As far as the conversion goes there are quite a lot of Ford variant conversions (v6/8) kicking around especially in Aus/SA but as you say Subaru does seem to be the engine of choice for obvious flat4 reasons and the way it fits but the roar of a Scorpio would be sweet _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Thanks very much.
Next question is...im looking for a donor car (Scorpio...but are there other fords that have the same motor ? )... is there any particular year/model i ought to look for for ease of installation/ hook up ect...?
oh yea..p.s...The input shaft..(2,9 clutch - T25 box), where can i get one...or does the original Ford one fit in the T25 box..? |

Hmm... I don't want to bang on your ideas. Butt...
If you don't have Scorpio donator, why use it? Here are heaps of choices except Scooby's, Peug, VW's, Audi, Volvo to name a few others. The Ford engines are known to be heavy, so if you really want a V6 why not make a better choice? |

| well...I guess its only cause im in Norway...and every change u make to a vehicle from standard has to be approved and stamped in the log book. (even the roof rack on my Syncro..! ) Regarding the T25 (called the T3 here) the only conversions that have been done here and approved (already in the system) are the Ford 2,9 and the Subaru 2,2...so if I go for for example the Audi V6, its gonna be the 'paper process from hell' with them wanting all kinds of stuff from the manufacturers...for vehicles no longer in production, and God knows what...So basically im just concerned about not getting it approved if i use something else...This is almost the 'last communist state' over here when it comes to cars and registration/approval ect...! Anything away from the 'norm' scares the brown and smelly out of them...but yea, thanks for the tip about the other motors.....If im first gonna do the change I thought the 2,9 offered good performance compared to the Subaru....especially for 'offroad' power...? Im open to all suggestions...i havent got the donor vehicle yet... |

| Well, Norway is not exceptionally difficult compared to Sweden or GB. If I were you, the choice had been so easy, EJ22 every day. |

Norway is much more difficult than the U.K or Sweden when it comes to certification and approval. At least Sweden is in the E.U and things go a little easier there..also culturaly Sweden is very different to Norway...Sweden is a lot more 'open' minded.
But the thing attracting me to the Ford is the performance/power over the Sub...but if anyone has a different opinion I open for that...Im not familiar with either of them in detail....thats why Im here..
Which model runs the EJ222...Legacy..? is that turbo ? |

| hi mate, the sierra 4x4 uses the same engine as the scorpio. bear in mind you will need to get a 2wd sump and engine mounting brackets to go with it tho. try the ford sierra owners club website for parts etc really helpful. |

The EJ22 is in many models, you will find both EJ20, EJ22 and maybe even EJ25's in Norway. We have 25's now here, but they have just showed up the last 5 years (on the other hand, 2.5-blocks are really easy to get anyway). The EJ20 is extremely easy to find. Best of all, they all have the same bolt pattern and share many parts.
When my thumb is not stuck in the butt, work too much or have a wife that complains too much I'm doing a EJ20-conversion in my bus with a home made bellhousing/adapter.
Here are numerous of threads about Suby's and you have Rjes himself here too. You will have a really light weight engine with anything from 113 to several hundreds of horse powers and a torque that's incredible.
Well, I had two Impreza before so I may be a little "coloured". But I think you can get the sense that I'm trying to convince you about Subaru over Ford. |

| hmmm....very interesting, I appreciate your opinion. Iv'e just got the impression that the 2,9 V6 wildly outperforms any of the Subaru motors, but it sounds that may be an inncorrect impression.....? Getting a donor vehicle over here is gonna be much more costly if i go for Subaru...theres quite a few really cheap Scorpios with low mileage motors....Subaru holds its price very well here probably cause of the 4wd which is very desireable here.... But it sounds like the Subaru would be an easier motor to work on once its in place...? but i guess its more complicated to wire up than the Ford...or not ? |

You could always ask Petter if he's got one over now.
As I said, read some Scooby-threads at this forum and do some Google-work. You'll find heaps of info about the Subaru/T3 conversion.
My friend has a T3 with stock Impreza engine. 230 hp and 300 Nm, runs quite well. |
