E-mail me the part number (format 22611 AA123) of your ECU and the numbers of pin locations (not the number of actual pins) in each of the connectors between the engine and chassis harness, and I'll tell you what year is is _________________ Regards,

tis what i want to aquire next
-finally, after 6 months of waiting, found a stainless go faster manifold
-now i can 'just' attatch a silencer, then run it on the floor
-before I commit to fitting
-as me thinks i shall be chopping out the hoop and horns in my split, fabbing a over the top to bell/ then chassis hoop - like t25
-new nose mount
new engine bar

I didn't realise you meant you don't have any of the engine management system at all. It's really not a good idea to build a system up from parts for a coupe of reasons:
The hassle you will have finding a the rest of the parts
The fact that you will not easily be able to tell whether they parts were intended to work together or not
To tell what year the engine is, try taking the plastic cam belt covers off. Each piece will have have a date stamp on the back, showing what year it was made. If the dates all match up, you can have pretty good idea that it model year is the year stated, or maybe the next year. All I can tell from your info is that it is from between 1995 and 1999.
You should be able to get the engine to run by fitting the entire engine management system (including the harness on the engine) from another naturally aspirated EJ20 engine. All the sensors on your engine should be the same). Whether it has an immobiliser depends on the engine that donates it's management system, not on your engine. Whether the engine will run exactly as Subaru intended is anyones guess (the cam profiles, compression ratio, etc may not be the same as those the ECU was mapped for). If you want to try to match the system up to the engine, try and find a donor car with the same engine spec as yours. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EJ_engine for a start on what to compare.
If you happen to have the VIN number of the car which donated your engine, go to a dealer and ask them nicely if they can tell you the part number of the ECU which was fitted to the car. They should be able to. If so, you are after this ECU and all the wiring harness, etc components which go with it. They will not be able to give you any useful info from the engine number that you have (their systems identify vehicles / parts from VIN numbers only).
Good luck. You could try Grade A Subaru, if they happen to be breaking a Subaru with the same / similar blown engine, they will be able to remove the engine management system for you. _________________ Regards,
