Early bay upgrade

My early bay with 911 power,

Due to money probs I've decided to come to thedark side Wink

sold the porsche engine and running gear and am going to fit an ej2.5t motor (when finances allow) mated to 915 porsche 5 speed and coil over 911 based front suspension which i already had in my garage.
I've made a start on the front end, but have to wait 3-4 weeks for shocks to be converted to coil overs.

nice looking van that. which porsche engine did it used to have then?

like the coil overs...assume you are doing away with the beam then and using a wishbone off something?

getting rid of the front beam will help a lot with your cooling options...is that part of the plan?

It used to have a 204bhp 3.0lt sc motor cog box re-work 091 box with taller 4th, my own rear disc conversion with astra calipers and boxster s 318mm front discs and brembo 4 pots.
Now i'm gonna fit 944 s2 rear arms and coil overs (no torsion bars) the 911 set up in the first pic and massive 350mm discs all round with huge 4 pot brembo's will post some pics on sunday.

Your coil over conversion looks promising. At least very sturdy. Happy

It's a bit of a rip off really, based on the carrera performance conversion
they do on splity's and modded it to fit a bay,

But at least it's tried and tested.

The 911 front suspnsion does seem a relatively easy swap, do you have to narrow it much?

One thing I don't understand, this is definitely not going to be cheaper than what you started with! I'm sure it will be better though Grin

The 911 stuff needs no narrowing at all,
As for more expensive other than the engine i've had all the other
parts waiting in my garage to be fitted.

intrigued by your S2 rear conversion with coil overs....I presume you have seen my conversion...same but with air bags.

i taek it your running coilovers off the original arm shock mount?
apologies if im telling you stuff youve already worked out...but in my case it was a big/tedious job to make the 944s2 rear suspension shock mount strong enough to take the load. the easy option is to use the shock mount only but then there is no fail safe. (for me this is easier than for you as I have 2 suspension components - the bag and the shock). i would definatly be cautious using just the shock mount as the alloy arms arent designed for vans capable of big loads and also the rear engine all on one bolt!

Also bear in mind that the porsche arms will put yur coil overs inside your chassis - this is fine but you will need some pretty short ones as the petrol tank floor gets in the way.

I guess you are not using the torsions so you can narrow the torsion tube and run wider than 8 inch wheels? or is there another reason?

great project though - look forward to see how it develops.
