Hi All,
My Van engine (2.1DJ) is making horrible noises so considering a Subaru conversion as if I have to spend the money may as well have more fun/power/tunability/reliabilty with it.
My reasons are better A road cruising but also hopefully better MPG. Hence I am thinking of putting LPG on it as well.
My question is two fold... how easy is an LPG conversion on a subaru engine and how well does it take it? Also which engine might be best to go for to get best MPG in both unleaded and LPG format. The van does weigh a bit once loaded so more torque may well save fuel as not thrashing it quite so much?
My instinct which balances fun with practicality is for a EJ25D engine but any pointers gratefully recieved.
A.

Welcome fella

I know SFA about LPG convos.
But I sure can say that an EJ20 in the back (091 box) is a total Godsend(TM) if you use it for a distance cruiser.
Umm, I had a nice 2l CU in the back, Solex (don't slag them if they're set up nicely) - 24mpg on a cruise, 60mph.
EJ20 - 28-30mpg cruising to Devon from Kent - effortlessly, regularly.

Insurance took a £100 hike. Pays for it's self in saved "Juice money"/year

The AGA (diesel) is another kettle of fish. It runs CANBUS (google's your friend here). AGA burner's aren't as easy as they used to be

'78 Bay, 2 litre 091 box, EJ20 NA & the ashtray's on the 'right' side.
I don't lean forward for hills any more Grin
Bugger, missed out on "Live fast, die young"

X2 for me.. i had a sweet 1.9dg engine managed about 25mpg tops depending on hills. an effortless first 1000 mile round trip with an ej25 (quad cam) returned 30mpg no probs. my insurance hiked a bit but many a smile for the extra pounds.
Really cant imagine going back now and has become cheaper than my daily drive (h6 subaru) thats petrol, insuance, tyres, tax, spares etc etc!! and if im honest a better drive (i think outbacks handle like boats compared to a lowered T25 conv!!)

As you say the extra torque helps lots, if your after a happy medium then the ej22 seems to be a popular choice also.

All i would say is you wont regret it whichever engine you go for Grin
