Bit of a basic question but im not much of a auto electrician....so hoping someone can clear up a few issues.
My dad wanted some indicators on his 1940s Morris E instead of the semaphores. I agreed to do it thinking it would be simple - however there is about 60 years of people bodging wiring so i decided to add my own bit to the cars now extensive wiring system!!!
ITs a positive earth 6v system. I wired in some bike indicators with a 3 pin relay. All have good earths however i ran into a problem....
one side works perfectly suggesting there is no problem with the relay. The other side comes on but doesnt flash despite being wired up identically - the only possible difference is the wire is longer on the working side!
Am i right in thinking relays work on resistance building up? I did measure the resistance in each circuit and it is lower in the non working side. If so can i adjust this by putting in higher wattage bulbs (currently 3w) or extending / changin the wire....or am i just totally wrong??!!!

now if you'd said it was a 1940's beetle we may have been able to help
I'd have thought the difference on resistance would either make them flash fast or slow you say the side thats working has longer whirring , would think the shorter side would have had more chance working , like you say try one slightly larger bulb ,
have you wired in a bulb to show in the binnacle ( does it have one ) _________________ Auto Union Munga Jeep ,T4 2.4td , T4 2.5tdi ,Mercedes S Class on LPG , 66 splity deluxe , GP mk1, 3 type 25s 1 with 1.9dt pug engine + 1 with N/A pug engine ,,there are 6 t25s with pug power in Darlington
cheers phil....its defo got me puzzled!
No builb in the binnicle but i intend to add one later as thats what the 3rd terminal on the relay is for aparently?!
Ill try larger bulbs
THe working side seems to go at normal indicator speed so resistance must be about right on that side!!
Ive also tried giving thelights additional earths to make sure thats not the prob but to no avail!!!
