Hardcore inner sills? The solution is...

50x50 mm square tubing. Two on top of each other! Happy

I need to replace a peace of the innersill and one of the outriggers to pass the yearly MOT. The sills are darn expensive but after some measuring I found out that all pieces that needs replacement are 50x50 or 50x100. My garage pal looked up and said: "hey, we've got about a 100 metres tubing laying around...". They are 2 mm in thickness, so I believe my inner sills are going nasty.
That MOT technician can bang his hammer until he turns blue. Happy

Wait a minute, are you saying when they do inspections over there they hit your car with a hammer?

they do in england it's called the corrosion assesment tool "cat hammer" and it is used to test the structural integrity of the vehicle

Plastic hammer?! No way, they use the aggressive sharp edged one of a kind. If they make a hole, you're the one who's supposed to fix it. On top of that, if you don't do it within four weeks and pass a new MOT, your car is not road legal...

A friend of mine replaced the sills with 3 mm stainless and added a layer of paint on top. The technician thought he found a "cover up" for bad sills, so he picked up the hammer with a smile and banged hard. That car rang like a church bell. He passed. Happy

My MOT guy uses a screw driver! If he finds any corrosion he tells me you got some welding to do there Mr Griffin. Then he gives me my MOT certificate and allows me 12 months to fix it!! I don't reckon he would let it go through 2 years running though!

Anyway i have been going there 13 years now and he knows if i have missed something and he points it out it will be fixed immediately.

Well, if the screwdriver was around half a kilo, you would be close to my MOT tools...

Square tubes and 1 mm galvanized sheets are good stuff. Happy
