Can any one help?

I'm having trouble getting my brakes to balance for the MOT. Luckily my MOT man is letting me use the equipment to test them befor the MOT so its not costing my loads in failed MOTS.

The fronts are all golf. 288mm discs and callipers, mk2 servo, mk3 MC. And I have brand new copper lines (Which I made up) and Hell stainless hoses and banjo conectors.

The pistons are moving freely in the calipers so the MOT man suggested that I take the pads out and sand down all the edges and put a bit of copper slip on them to make sure they are all moving freely.

The rears are the original drums. I've just replaced both set of pads and brake cylinders and am just in the process of replaceing the hand brake cable and fitting another stainless braided hose too.

I can under stand the backs being abit off as the van has been sat for a year but the front are bafling me as they work great and its all new to the van!!

Any tips, tricks or advice you guys have would be great!

Cheers

do you mean front / back balance or left to right balance?

if its front back it could be the original proportioning valve stuck (they are often neglected and get gunged up) or posibly the built in proportioning of the master cylinder not being correct for the brake combo you have.

if its left right look at flexis first.

Its left to right. I've just replaced the flexy's on the back with braided hoses today so hope fully that will get the back sorted but the front is still a puzzle

are both front brakes on the same piston in the master cylinder or are they diagonally split now?
have you checked the sliders on the calipers are free?

I got my MOT! Super stoked. I replaced all the flexys at the back for stainles braided hoses, made up some new brake lines and replaced brake cylinders, hand brake cables and pads at the back and that got the back brakes working lovely.

And then up front I just sanded up all the edges of the brake pads and carriers and smeared a bit of copper slip on them.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll up date my build tred with pics soon.
